I am still buying the elite. I just care about the hdmi. I will be running on a sony 50in lcd projection 1080p.tbombrocksSo? I have a 46" Sony 1080p Bravia. The difference in component and HDMI as far as picture quality goes, over a few meter or less... that's nothing. You are better hooking up something with HDMI that's worth it, ie, supports better audio, etc. You aren't seeing true 1080p regardless, the 360 upscales it, JUST like your TV would upscale it.

The 360 does true 1080p. All older games or games programed for 720p are upscaled to 1080p, but new games like Virtua Tennis 3 or Def Jam Icon and some others are TRUE 1080p, even when using component or hdmi cables. Also, the HD-DVD add on will now output TRUE 1080p over the hdmi with the Elite as well.
The question is, does it really make a difference? It may make a small diference with the hd-dvd add on because now we can get a better 1080p signal from hdmi than we did with the damn VGA cables.....but the games should look exactly the same.

*sighs*
Show me one piece of credible evidence anywhere stating that HDMI has a better picture quality than component. It doesn't. Quit fighting about it, and certainly don't buy an elite just for HDMI. You are wasting your money, no matter what kind of technophile you are.
6 words for you... "Three flashing red lights of DoOoOoM!"... I can guarantee that the Elite doesn't have it, and thats what makes it worth while for me.........lokiisback
Maybe not the first time you turn it on, but after that, it's the same as the other models, except they squirted a little extra glue on the chips, but how can you guarantee it won't have the ring of death? You can't, not even from new. So don't make me get out the cattle prod on you. I'm buying an Elite too, so none of this is meant seriously, but it's still true.

You can "guarantee?"..................LOL.
2 words for you.... we'll see.Â
I personally think this is a waste of time for most people, and I predict the "Elite" will suffer the same fate of the original 360's................ the 3 flashing red lights of doom popping up all over america in the coming months.
Thanks, but no thanks, Microsoft. I'll keep playing my "regular" 360 (On my second) until this one dies, then I'll return it to Best Buy for another one, and play that one until it dies.
Capitalism is great, isn't it?
as far as the ring of doom goes, the elite has some glue / resin around the cpu and gpu to stop it from lifting from the board due to heat warping of the main board. Its only a quick fix solution but it might work because thats were the hardware failure was occuring. The thing that wont change is the thing crashing when your playing games, because the cpu wont be any cooler when running, and heat is a contributing factor to lost efficiency on cpu's.the1stmoonfly
So when is the sku with the new chips/quieter drive coming out? Anyone know yet?Â
