Both give me a really good view on a game. I really thrust in the opinion of most of Gamespots editors. It may even affect my decision in getting a certain game... or not.
I like seeing video reviews. If i'm on the fence I'll watch gametrailers, gamespot and IGN's video reviews. If I know the game is good I just watch Ign's
first i look at the score (doesnt determine if i buy a game or not) then buy and pass the game and then i watch the reviews. dont like to read reviews for been too long.
That's a good question. I'm more of a numbers and short summary kinda guy unless it's a game that I really like. Usually I like to try games out myself because it is so easy for companies to buy out these reviewers. But the number score that these sites give does help in the deicision along with the price. For example, if I wanted to try a game that is 69.99, it'd have to get at least an 8. Or else I'd rent it. I guess that's an answer =S.
Yes I do read the reviews of the games I'm most interested in. Actually I prefer to watch video reviews but same difference as far as your question is concerned.
I still make up my own mind when it comes to gaming (after all we all have different tastes) but I do find value in hearing what someone else has to say. If a game I'm really excited about gets a 2 out of 10, I will hold off buying it until I've learned more. I will read the review and find out went wrong and will rent if need be.
If a game I'm really excited about gets a 9 out of 10 then I will still read the review but I will more likely just buy the game, rather than test the waters.
I read the reviews on games I'm interested in, The "player" reviews I take more seriously because those are from regular people so they carry more weight with me. Most web site reviews have been way off in my opinion so I read them more just as a "preview" of a game , so I learn more about it.
i look at good and bad, look at average critic review (not player reviews cuz most go with 10 or 1 and no in between) watch video review, and if after all of that i still dont know, i will read the review
You should always read and watchallinformation available, so you can receive and digest this into a logical decision on whether or not you want to play the game.
Like most people here, it depends on my personal interest in the game. I check out the score for things I'm mildly curious about, but if I'm interested at all I'll read the review. Its important for me, because scores aren't always indicative of the full opinion. Also I want to know WHY a game was rated low, because some things I can live with (no multiplayer on some games, for one).
But what I DON'T read/pay attention to are USER scores. Mostly full of extreme opinions, their usefulness as a whole seems to escape me.
i read them sometimes. depends on the game. also i prefer the US reviews compared to the UK ones. like that UK ign review for halo 3 O_o and their bioshock one...pfffft.
