Dark Void Achievement Question

I've been playing Dark Void for the guts of a week now, and I've really enjoyed it. There is only one achievement left for me to get and the is to beat the game on Hardcore mode. Just wondering how to do this. Will I start a fresh game from scratch? If so, will I lose all my weapon upgrades? On the hand, will I be able to unlock the achievement if I simply replay all the level, except crack the difficulty up to harcore?

Most games allow playing through with it cranked up a difficulty. Just remember if you crank it up, do all the levels, and no achievement you know you must start a new game.
