Do you guys think it should? From reading IGN's History of Zelda article, Soul Calibur II (Gamecube version) is nowhere to be seen in there. If I recall correctly, Link had a story in there, where as he didn't in any of the Super Smash Bros. So my question is, should Link's story in Soul Calibur II be part of the History of Zelda?

No, it shouldn't be. The story he had there was not made by nintendo. I'm pretty sure that only Zelda games are in the timeline.

Should Super Mario RPG be included in the metroid storyline?

Samus makes an appearance in there after all... Point being that games that are not partof the official series should generally not be considered canon.

No it shouldn't. Like the posts before me said, just because the character has an appearance in a game, it doesn't make it canon to the rest of the series.thrubeingcool13
So was said about Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Minish Cap. And guess who developed those? Capcom.

And you all have forgotten that Link has a story in there in his profile in Soul Calibur II. A quote from the beggining of that.

"Dark ominus clouds"

Familiar with these Zelda's? Link to the Past? Ocarina of time?

Another thing said in there that Link fought off an evil magician before SCII's events, it could be Ganondorf, Vaati, Agnim, or even a secret evildoer.

Also do NOT forget that Miyamoto and Anouma poorly put the timeline together for the series. Having every game being so confusing to figure what's after the other and all that. So it's hard to tell how the hell it's cannon anyways.

A valid point.

However, what is canon and what isn't doesn't neccesarily follow a logical path. It's determined by the fans and the developers, and general consensus is that SCII did not actually happen in the Zelda timeline, while the Oracle games and Minish Cap did.

Odd, I agree.

I don't think any of Link's appearances outside of Zelda games were cannon, so no. He was just a bonus character in SCII, just like the Star Wars characters.

I think Miyamoto doesn't give a rats ass about the timeline.

Otherwise he might have released on for us all. D:

No, it's not odd. They were called Legend of Zelda, so they are a prat of the cannon. It is more natural to compare SCII to SSBB. Link was in a story there too, but it can hardly be considered cannon.

I think on one occation Miyamoto said that there was a timeline, but since fans had so much fun speculating, they would keep it to themselves. I strongly believe they have an official timeline linking all the games together, though I'm not sure how long we must wait before we get them all.

By that logic the CD-i games should be considered canon.

Then let's extend the definition of a cannon Zelda game to a game created by nintendo and named Legend of Zelda. That way CD-i games and spin-offs are both excluded.

So there are a lot of good arguments for why Soul Calibur shouldn't be put in LoZ timeline.  But the most important point has yet to be brought up; that point being that Soul Calibur shouldn't be put in the LoZ timeline because SOUL CALIBUR IS A HORRIBLE GAME!!!  It's such a lame fighting game, I can beat people who have devoted ridiculous amounts of time to playing that game by just doing the grab attack a bunch of times.  I'd much rather play a real fighting game like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear.

Hey, that's an idea!  They should put Link in Street Fighter, Capcom did make the Oracle games, afterall.

metroid_dragon

Nope. They didn't have the "Legend of" in the title. IMO, the biggest problem with that logic is that it implies that Zelda II on the NES is non-canon.

Yes and no at the same time,it isn't made by Nintendo, but it doesn't effect the storyline in anyway at all, like the Star Wars Characters in Soul Caliber 4,there was a story, but it didn't effect there storyline at all.

thrubeingcool13

so link traveled to the future to fight samus? how can that be accepted at all?

And he wouldn't need to find the Soul Calibur, because the Master Sword is already the ultimate weapon in the Zelda lore.
