True thats a fighting game staple. BBBBUUUTTT perhaps...they could force you to unlock classic characters and let you play the new ones first? Sometimes they do that as well.

Its not that its difficult to unlock. It just makes "instant fun with friends" not as instant. I did experience this when my friend brought over the game and I didn't have it so nothing was unlocked. We weren't going to take the time to play the subspace emmissary either. So we made due without them but we kinda wished we could play them.

Unlockables are okay.

But if you're going to put two characters ON THE BACK OF THE BOX as a SELLING POINT, making them require a considerable number of hours (or forcing you to play the game wrong for a pretty long time) to unlock them is stupid.

quick point about the unlockables.... if you are only given half the people to start with for example some people might think there is not enough characters and cba to unlock them.

it would be even worse if the way you unlock them was **** boring.

i think he is one of the best reviewers ok maybe a score might help but unless your completely thick you can pretty much work out what he is saying =].

Yeah I can understand that. It was kinda lame to have to work to unlock Sonic before me and a friend could play has him. I tried thinking of any other fighters that had huge unlockables. The only one I could think of right now was Darth Vader or Mara Jade from the SW fighter on the PS1. Then again that was a long time ago, so I could be wrong about that also.

What sold me on brawl more than anything else was in game editor. Designing your own fighting areas than trading with others is a blast. Which kinda made me sad he did not even go into the details of what else the game had to offer past being a fighter. Then again I wonder if he even tried.

I don't like a lot of unlockables. but you have to remember that he's not really Hardcore. which is why his review says smash is just button mashing. Yahtzee is an old gamer that likes a good story and doesn't like online or overly difficult games.
