Happy Sunday, SW.

Sniper battles.. they happen in a lot of games. But which sniper battles are truly special? I always think of one of the classic battles in gaming history - Snaker vs Sniper Wolf! It was so cool for its time, and something I never experienced at the time. And the drama behind it along with the characters make it unforgettable.

This isn't the only sniper battle in MGS series.. MGS 4 comes to mind.

Some true nostalgia there in MGS 4. Would love a remaster.

MGS V was ok, didn't really care about Quiet as a character..

But that reminds me, there is one more sniper battle from the MGS franchise that I'm forgetting...

MGS Snake Eater. That one was a little more interesting because of the camo.

But make no mistake, MGS 1 is my favorite. It was exciting, a thrill, and there was heart to it. So there goes my vote. I know I talked about MGS series, but there are plenty of other games that feature sniper battles. Which ones are your favorite, SW?

Definitely the ones in the Metal Gear Solid games stand out for me. My favourite was probably fight The End in MGS3. I thought that it was so cool that you could actually even bypass the entire fight.

What about Sniper village in Medal of Honor: Allied Assault?

You aren't sniping yourself, but you sure are being hunted by a lot of them :P

Your post reminded me of the Stalingrad map. Is that the one you're talking about?

The End for sure.

Quiet was good too.

Crying Wolf was tedious.

@SolidGame_basic: Oh yeah, the multiplayer was a right hoot and a holler too. Some really great sniping!

But I was actually talking about this mission:

It's the mission everybody hates.

You keep getting sniped by enemies you can barely see. And you have to snipe them back, which is really hard to do. LOL

Almost unfair including Metal Gear games lol.

#1 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (vs The END)

#2 - Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (vs Crying Wolf)

#3 - Metal Gear Solid (vs Sniper Wolf)

#4 - Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (vs QUIET)

#5 - Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare not really a Sniper battle I think, but the Sniper mission is one of the best FPS missions in history. Loved it.

I'm just going to say that the battle against The End is overrated ... is good but i don't think is that amazing. Most of the time if i'm not into it i would just use the Mic and be done with it.

Anyway, my favorite will always be against Sniper Wolf. It was a damn cool fight, very tragic and filled with emotions, Kojima did a great work with some of his old characters.

Metal Gear Solid has the two GOAT sniper battles:

Sniper Wolf (MGS)

The End (MGS3)

Definitely The End. Such a fun boss fight on its own, but also had all those cool little twists you'd only find in a MGS game.

- Snipe him early game in that short window of time immediately following the cutscene at the warehouse dock. Deal with Ocelot unit soldiers lying in wait when you make it to his area later. Bypassing the fight altogether, but still allowing for a fun sniper scenario.

- The system clock trick where if too much real world time passes, you'll find he died of old age when you get to his area.

- Also since the game takes system clock into account, and basically treats it as if Snakes sleeping when you're not playing - Save during the boss battle and quit. Load back in later, a cutscene plays out of Snake waking up to being captured by The End. You're then taken back to a cell at the lab a few areas back.

Even aside from all that though, still just really enjoyed the boss fight itself. The large jungle spaces + the crazy amount of options in MGS3 make it a lot of fun to replay.

Also really cool that you can get the moss camo for shaking him down and the Mosin Nagant for a non-lethal win.

---

As for MGSV, thought Quiet was a bit underwhelming tbh. Much preferred the sniper section against the three Skulls at the cliff side jungle.

Yea, probably go with 2Fort, specifically Team Fortress 2 version which compresses the map down for better pacing, improving sniping aspect.

It forces the sniping to become transparent, be it opposing snipers or other classes who will intrinsically know within a single match the hot-spots used, and these spots, in order to be utilized, force the sniper out of cover with clearly defined silhouettes.

Rather than random frustration many games like Battlefield deliver where their are too many variables on large indistinguishable camouflaged terrain, it becomes manageable situational awareness for all parties involved.

I think they call that game balance? Or something like that.

@ConanTheStoner: yea, Quiet to me is one of the most underwhelming characters, let alone fighting her lol.
