You won't need a PS Eye to use PS4's voice commands

Responding to a fan query on Twitter, likeable Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed that you’ll be able to use the headset included with each system to navigate the machine’s dashboard with voice commands.

It’s not yet clear how well this feature will work, but the platform holder does have some history in the speech recognition space (yes Sony was first) so hopefully it will be a viable alternative to, y’know, actually pushing buttons. Of course, this doesn’t render the PlayStation Eye entirely useless, as you’ll need the overhauled camera if you want to use gesture controls.

@kellykelly: The silence in this thread says a lot. Voice commands is probably the most useful thing about Kinect and PS4 is doing it without extra cameras and $100 less.

I told hardcore lemming months ago that voice command is most useful feature and can be done on cheap microphone, so kinect is pointless and being mandatory because of spy capability for advertiser as MS admitted.

why the hell would ever use voice commands to go through menus?

Ouch that is quite a blow. What is the point of Kinect then? I just don't understand, why force its inclusion when nothing at launch takes advantage of it. Wii came with a game that actually used the motion controls, I think that is what made the Wii so successful. I just can't see casual people buying a console that doesn't come with a game. Even if the PS4 launched with camera forced in there is still something that makes use of all of it's features.

figures. honestly, who even though kinect 1 was needed for any voice commands? the tech was there to allow for the same features with any headset and this was shown with other games before kinect even existed.

Kinect is all about the games just like the XBox One baybay! Just think how great Kinect will be (amazing tech) now that the developers will want to develop for it. Have fun with the EyeToy though lol!

Why don't you cows wait to see how the PS3.5 voice commands work before claiming ownage. Knowing Sony it will be second rate garbage that can do 4 commands. This hardly compares to the superior X1.
