The next Xbox will be a matt-black media hub with a mission to bring games to life in your living room with augmented reality, directional sound, and a four-player finger-tracking Kinect. We told you all that last month. This month, our sources tell us it will have a touchscreen, too.

Microsoft are experimenting with a tablet-like controller with a shape closer to Sony's sleek Vita handheld / Apple's iPad than Wii U's bulky unit - it's an HD screen surrounded by the traditional 360 buttons and sticks.

On 360 that touchscreen will be second only to Kinect in how you operate your console. It could be a remote control when you're watching TV, a browser when you're on the internet, extra buttons and information when playing a game or a portable display when you want to take your game with you.

..

Expect to see the next Xbox at E3 this June.

Xbox World Magazine

 Well, this will be interesting.

Finger tracking with no lag could open up infinite possibilities. Sounds promising (Key word: sounds). I'll wait for E3 to judge.

lmao, this is exactly what I think every time I read through one of these topics about the next gen. There's always apprehension when it comes to change. I wonder how long it will be before we see some sort of awesome, "core" game series being put on display at E3 using one of these "SCARY NEW CONTROL SCHEMES". Because as soon as that happens, people will breathe a sigh of relief and resume being the sheep that they are.

Yep. Its always funny watching these things pan out over time. Its entirely possible that this could be the new norm for controllers this coming gen and all the naysayers will be on board with it acting like they never had doubts.

No, No, No! :x

Those are the only types of experiences the WiiU will deliver.

You see those analogs, face buttons, shoulder buttons and dpad? Its all just for show, you cant actually use them. Pfft.

The Wii-U controller and now the Xbox World controller will be like a giant Nintendo DS, what is not to love about that? Hell, Real Time Strategy games may now be practical on a home console with the touch screen input.

There are so many ways these new controllers can be put to use its insane. Most people on SW lack any kind of foresight, or imagination.

I love these posts. When a new console comes out, I want drastic changes, not just an improvement in graphics. Back in the day, we used to get brand new controllers every time a new gen showed up. This time around, only Nintendo dared to do anything exceptionally different. I say bring on the new tech, bring on the new way to play video games. :D

These guys are doing it wrong.

The emhpasis should be on designing immersive games where the actual medium through which you play is as unobtrusive as possible.

Screaming and yelling at your TV and flailing around is a great way to pull you out of a game world.

Many will complain how Microsoft is copying Nintendo and that may be true but this would actually be good news for the Wii U. We've already heard the excuse from some developers about how they'd need to use the features of the Wii U controller to put their games on the console or else it wouldn't be worth it. So already we could sense that some developers were ready to shun the Wii U because of it.

But if Microsoft uses a similar controller they'd have no choice but to develop their games with that kind of control in mindand at the same time no more excuses to also bring their games on the Wii U. All I have to say is if that's the case Sony better follow or they're gonna be the odd man out this time just like Nintendo was with the Wii.
