Microsoft recently uploaded a handful of promotional teaser videos for Project Scorpio. They're standard fare stuff -- 15-second clips that urge the viewer to "feel the power" ahead of Sunday's E3 press conference. It's a marketing tactic that we've seen a thousand times before.

Except, these may be slightly different. These may contain clues as to Project Scorpio's release date. Let's analyze the evidence.

First, here are three of the videos, which YouTube user "The Red Dragon" combined into one clip:

At 0:43, the stage has a code on it that reads "X10S101-317." The first four characters, "X10S," seem to be a code for the console. It's probably not an indication of a real name. (My money's still on "Xbox Elite" by the way.) But it's the latter half that's important. Removing the dash, the remaining numbers are "101317," which easily translates to October 13, 2017.

A more far-fetched theory pertains to the price. This video from Red Dragon describes how Googling that string of characters brings up an old edition of Radio Electronics magazine where the cover story is "Build this robot for under $400." This may be a secret message that Scorpio comes in at $399, the price point many believe it needs to hit in order to be successful. (For what it's worth, that Google search is nearly impossible now as those characters bring up news stories from most gaming sites.)

That's not the only Easter egg hiding in these videos. The other one is much more obvious and also kind of aggressive. At 0:28, the tent on the left has writing on it that clearly says "6>4." This is certainly a nod to Scorpio's well-advertised 6 teraflops of computing power compared to PS4 Pro's 4.12.

There's a lot of speculation surrounding Scorpio, largely in part because it's expected to be the only console hardware at E3 this year. But also because people want to know if it'll be impactful enough to strengthen Xbox's position during this console generation. The teasers and secrets and guessing are fun for now, but they'll only last four more days. Then, we'll have the complete scoop on what the hell Scorpio's capable of and how much it'll cost.

Right Before E3 And Xbox Scorpio Reveal, Microsoft Trademarks "S" Logo

A new trademark application that covers "video game consoles" has been released.

Microsoft has filed a new trademark application for a mysterious "S" logo, just days before the company is expected to formally announce Project Scorpio and more at E3 2017.

Spotted by The Verge, the trademark application is for an S with a break in the middle (see it below). The application covers "video game consoles for use with an external display screen or monitor; video game interactive remote control units," which could be a reference to a new or updated console.

The trademark application was filed on June 6. It follows the Microsoft trademark for Direct Reality, which was filed on June 2 and may be connected to gaming.

No further details on the trademark application were made available in the filing. We have followed up with Microsoft in an attempt to get more details.

Microsoft's E3 2017 briefing takes place at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET. The company is expected to formally announce Scorpio's name, price, and release date during the event.

In other Scorpio news, Microsoft has released new E3 teasers that invite fans to "feel true power."

Well it looks like all my inside info was right.

This is Microsoft bowing out this generation and making plans for the next.

Actually they say "feel TRUE power". As in not dynamic or upscaled since that wasn't good with X1.

Hmmm.

All Sony would have to say in reply:

Sorry. Just had to do it.

I wonder if we will get a Forza 7 bundle 2tb for $500. That would be nice. I'd trade in my Xone.

It's gonna be the Xbox 10 or 10 S. They are trying to bring the Windows 10 branding full circle. And when they release the next updated consoles, they can just change the letter at the end.

I'm also starting to buy into the $399 rumors. It still sounds nuts to me, but it's starting to gain traction in some of my close circles. I will have a full plate of crow ready if it happens.

I hope it does release in October (or earlier)... they need to get it out ASAP so people can play all the end of year releases on it. November is too late imo.

Those easter eggs are very telling. As for the $399 price... that would be impressive if true. Still not much incentive to pick one up if you have a good PC. I do need a 4K blu-ray player though... hmmm.... hehe :)

They already have an Xbox Elite console the one with the hybrid ssd.

I think it's gonna be X10S to coincide with Windows 10s coming in the fall.

With the amount of tech they have in the system, I don't know how they come in at anything other than 499. I would be shocked if it did.

I'm pretty sure it will be 399.

The Xbox One launched for 499 and many people thought that was too expensive. MS later corrected that mistake by dropping kinect and making an SKU for 399, which was way more succesful.

I'll trade in my current Xbox One for a Scorpio at that price. Especially because I wager Halo 6 will have some sort of benefit from the boost in power that we may not one see on the original Xbox One. Just an assumption but I wouldn't be surprised.

It's Microsoft and Sony's way to say their consoles are 12 teraflops and 8.4 teraflops in a PR way because these AMD gpu's can do HALF-floats (typically 32FP), though it is unlikely to see or use 16 bit computations over 32 bit computations in a gaming environment.

Floats with half the accuracy* and 16fp is already being used in gaming environment, just that the new amd gpu's can do 2 of those in time of one that it took the old gpu's, using lesser accuracy saves bandwidth on situations where 32bit or higher isn't required. But I'm sure Ron can write you a novel about it

The new cooling for Scorpio. 4K 60fps video capture, the 4K bluray cost money, you don't get those things on the cheap.

If i was to bet right now 450$ will be the price point, a happy medium. However i would not be surprised if it cost 499$
