XBOX 360s Hardware is Unreliable (LONG READ)

I'm not degrading the 360 in any way, I just want to point out a common issue (very common as of late).I work at EBGames in Georgia. My time working there so far I have realized that customers are returning brand new 360s with defective hardware issues. Out of every 3 we sell 2 (at the most) or 1 (at the least) will be returned. I remember last week we had 4 come back to the store. Most customers there are on their 2nd and 3rd 360. We also have about 10 used 360's in our storage and about 6 new ones.It's very unfortunate to see these problems with my fellow gamers. I own a 360 and mine so far hasn't given me any problems... that is, until today! All of a sudden today none of my games work in 1080i. It allows the XBOX Dashboard to be displayed in 1080i, but as a game is loaded it downgrades to 480p. This has never happened to me so far until today. I've only tried Gears and Dead Rising (they both switch to 480p). I don't know if anyone else is having this problem. I'm calling Microsoft later about this though.Outside of that we had a Microsoft rep come in today. She came to change the game in the 360 and check the kiosk. As we did that my manager explained to her about customer complaints as well as the high number of returns. She replied, 'We just recently discovered a hardrive defect that has been doing this.' She also added that other stores are getting the same feedback.It's kind of ironic that 360 is having all of these problems when it was the PS2 with many issues last gen. One would think that by now there would not be any faulty hardware.Overview of things that make me scratch my head:- An AC adapter costs $100 when sold separate, but doesn't come with a power cord in the package.- Wireless Adapter cost $100... ouch! Sucks if you are far from your in home router.- Headsets are very cheap. Well it's either the headset or the port it's connected to in the controllers. I've gone through 4 headsets for only 2 controllers already. The ones I just bought are starting to malfunction as well :(.- Faulty hardware even after a year and 5 months ( defective Hardrives).NOTE: If you don't believe me my store's number is 770) 513-0005

Thank you for posting this. I've been thinking about saying something for awhile and I'm glad someone did it for me so I didn't have to.

My console has not died... yet. It has however had disk read errors on NEW games, some of which were played on the SECOND day of me owning the console. I have also had the system freeze numerous times.

The age of my console... less than a month old.

I'm not even sure the Zephyr will fix these disc reading errors. (unless they plan on upgrading the drive) My console is about 3 months old and has sporadic disc reading errors too. Brand new discs and the system still has trouble reading them at startup sometimes. Once I'm in the game though, the errors are pretty scarce. (I think maybe 5 in the 3 month period)

yah i have my system since launch. i have not had problems with it, but 2 of my friends that got their system during xmas are now on their 2nd 360. So yah TC i do not doubt about 360 having issues. only reason why i do not think i have faults with mine is, i really do not play it much. i only got it for gears of war. I use my pc for my gaming.

your almost as same as me when it comes to 360. i dont play 360 much myself i just play oblivion and waiting on blue dragon i play more games on all my other systems. and im still playing wow on pc .

lol yep me too. i play wow and ohter fps games. but yah im just waiting for Blue Dragon my self. i think after that ill be getting rid of my 360 and get a ps3. to many pc/360 games, and im really wanting to play white knight story.

Yeah, I've had a hardware issue with my 360. From all account they do seem to be pretty fragile, but it's worth it for all of the full blown awesomeness they bring.
