Reports are in at Kotaku that the Xbox 360 is completely sold-out in Japan's largest electronics store. Could this be the turning point for the 360 in Japan? While the 360 has reclaimed the sales volume crown from the PS3 in the US & Europe and now it is blowing the socks off the PS3 in Japan, it seems like Sony could be calling it quits in the home console space.

Completely sold out in Japan means what exactly, that an extra 5000 units are selling every week.

Oh wait...Ok guys wars over pack in your bags MS wins the race. IT'S ALL OVER GUYS System wars forums needs to be shut down until next gen, but obviously there wont be a next gen becuase MS will win that by default as well.

It's not like selling out in Japan means that they have a very small stock of systems...nooo.

I think even with the help of all these JRPGS the 360 still won't sell much in japan.

Being sold out in one store, even if it's the biggest, doesn't mean too much. Sony has also had points where all the consoles flew off the shelves (When MGS4 came out) and not just at one store. So good for Microsoft, but it's not that big of a deal.

There is no way that this is true. The Japanese are loyal to their own. 360s will never sell out in Japan. Only PS3s 8)

The 360 selling out in few places really doesn't mean a lot because for a while after the PS3 was released it was almost imposible to find one in stock at any retailer, there were some sold on the internet for a lot more than full retail during this time.

Guys. The only reason MS ships low amounts of consoles to Japan is because low sales are expected. The fact that 360 sold out shows that Japanese are interested in the 360 more. Sure, the PS3 is still selling a lot more, but MS underestimated the amount of 360 buyers in Japan, which is a good thing for MS and the 360. This is not about the 360 completely "wtfpwning" the PS3, its about the 360 starting to gain ground.

Great but will it continue, I do want 360 to do well in JApan but you have to realise that a JRPG on either PS3 or Wii will send the consoles selling over 100,000 but the 360 only sold 24,000 with the release of a JRPG. MGS franchise is not that popular in Japan as it is in the west but the release of the game increased PS3 sales to over 70,000, now imagine what a highly aclaimed JRPG can do on PS3

OK..... the PS3 is almost at 3 million in Japan and the 360 is about 650,000 ( or something like that ).Tell me.... how does this affect Sony again?

At this rate the 360 will catch up to the PS3 by 2020 ( in Japan that is ).

Does this sound familiar by any chance?

The 360 is going to get some up and down surges courtesy of Square and Namco, but all that momentum goes for naught with Final Fantasy XIII remaining a Japanese PS3 exclusive. Metal Gear Solid is no Final Fantasy in Japan.

At what rate? There aren't any reports of how many 360's are being sold, so I'm just curious as to how you made your calculations. I'm going to guess it involved retrieving numbers from a specific orifice.

Japanese sales charts.

Edit: and it was reported that the PS3 reached 2 million units sold a while ago.

according to famitsu the 360 sold 24K last week, while this is certainly a respectable number for the 360 it's hardly taking Japan by storm and i seriously doubt it will last for more then one or two weeks

Reports are in at Kotaku that the Xbox 360 is completely sold-out in Japan's largest electronics store.

WillieBeamish

that only matters if they had a lot in stock in the first place, right?

If you have 100 in stock and you sell all 100, you sold out...but that's not saying a whole lot.

These kinds of threads are only relevant if you have real numbers.

24k 360's sold > PS3 average 10k sold.

360 is going GANGBUSTERS in Japan, face it.

Gangbusters it's not, but it's much better than they usually do, which is good for them.

MS should hug their japanese 3rd party devs for their continued commitment in the midst of their hardships in Japan.

They could have left the platform long ago and nobody would have blamed them.

I'm pretty sure the same thing happened when Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey came out over there. There was a boost of sales for a couple of weeks then things went back to normal. I expect the same thing to happen this time as well which is kinda unfortunate. I mean Microsoft just keeps on trying to get things moving over there -and props to them for that- but it never lasts long.

i don't you think you get it. this happen before with ac and that was what november of last year. and the 360 still remains the same. now sales may of not been doubled because it was the holiday season and the ps3 sales are low due to no recent games but still the 360 isn't taking anything by storm. it just got a game that some like to play
