XB1 Physical Edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War cannot be upgraded to X-Series X version

YongYea a famous YouTuber just made a huge video about this. Apparently the PS4 Physical Edition can be upgraded for 10 dollars through PSN. But the XB1 Physical Edition doesn't have that option and you would have to completely rebuy the game at 70 dollars to get the x-series x upgrades when that console comes out.

This is bad, this is anti-consumer, it's disgusting. I'm just warning Xbox One guys ahead of time for now if you buy this day one physically you are screwed on next gen.

You might want to get it digitally like the Cross-Gen bundle or just wait for the X-Series X physical version to come out at $70.

Microsoft should be able to do this on their end. I dunno what went down if Activision is the baddie here, or did Sony pay Activision to make Microsoft look worse than them, or did Microsoft just not wanna do it. I don't know the details here hopefully this all gets worked out before the games come out cause yeah right now that looks super shady.

Anyway I’m not planning on getting any upcoming releases of current gen games on physical format myself. I’m just going to wait until there’s an actual next gen physical version that I can get off a store shelf even if that means I have to wait a bit longer for it.

Yeah but you should be able to buy a game when it comes out and just upgrade later on for 10 bux or something why would you wanna wait if its the same price?

It would be the same price of $70 either way but you would get to play a ton on xb1 while the x-series x isn't out yet. I'm confused why would anyone wait?

This is false. The xbox version has the xbox one AND the xbox series X version on it. I mean just look at the picture you posted. It says it right on the front.

It can play on X-series through backwards compatibility but it won't get the upgraded visuals of the x-series game like higher frame rate and ray tracing and all that.

The box is semi accurate and semi a lie its just BC version of the game on x-series its not the real x-series version.

@ProtossRushX: Well if that's true, it's extremely confusing when the box says right on it in two different places that it's for xbox series X. Doesn't make sense to put that if it's just going to be BC.

Yeah it's messed up man. Who does the box art is that Microsoft or Activision? They should definitely make that more clear cause people might think its an x-series x game and buy it at the shop ya know.

@ProtossRushX: Ok I googled and see what you're saying. It would be really stupid to not buy the $70 disc, but I can see a lot of people not knowing this and just buying the regular $60 xbox one disc and not be able to upgrade. What a load of crap. My bad for calling you out.

This is confusing. The box clearly states X1 and XSX. Will the disc run the X1 on both systems without an upgrade for XSX? Or does the upgrade cost extra or buying the game again?

It's BC but you can't upgrade to the actual XSX version. You'll just be playing the Xbone version.

Yeah but there's just too many downloads and patches now a days the disc is basically useless won't be able to play online without downloading the patches. Just get the game right when it comes out and upgrade later imo you get way more play time etc.

This is on Activision. Microsoft allows for Smart Delivery and their games will utilize it but the other companies are free to use it however they want to. Don’t blame Microsoft for Activision’s greed.

Yeah they should take x-series off the box art if its not the x-series version thats confusing as hell.

1. XB1 game which you can play on the series X via backwards compatibility 79.99CDN

2. Cross Gen Game (both versions for $89.99 CDN not sure what that works out to US)

3. Ultimate Edition 119.99 (same as #2 but with some add ons)

on the PS store

1. Same price as 1 above playable via backwards compatibility

2. Same price as 2 above .. you get both versions

3 Same price as 3 above .. same add ons

Dude....YongYea is never false....just stop dude. We're talking about XB1 Physical version not the digital ones. I think all the digital ones can be upgraded I think I dunno for sure.

@regnaston: You can buy the ps4 version now, and upgrade to the ps5 version later for $10. If you buy the xbox one version, it will only play via BC on Series X, or you can rebuy the entire game made for Series X.

Also the PS5 physical version only has the PS5 version of the game on the disk while the Xbox Series X will have both the Xbox One version and the Xbox Series X version on the disk. How strange.

Sorry I skimmed the first post I didn't see you meant physical copy. I wonder what percentage of people actually buy physical copies anymore vs digital (not making an excuse I am actually curious).

That said if you plan on buying the XSX when it comes out just buy the one that includes the next gen version. I wonder though if it is possible that the Series X will be released before the 13th of November

These big, sleazy publishers love consoles because they can really squeeze the customer base.

It doesn't have 'two versions on the disc', it's just one. Since series X can play all Xbox One games.

@Bond007uk: Not true. It has the xsx and x1x versions of the game and costs $70. There's an X1 version available at 60 which you can't upgrade to xsx. Equally nuts is that the ps5 version doesn't include the PS4 version, but the xsx version includes the X1 version. This is all on Activision, and they need to explain why they made things so complicated.

So you can buy a version that contains the next gen and current gen version on xbox with no need to pay to get the next gen.

Thats better than paying for upgrade.

What if this one is out first this game is launching with or without the next gen consoles. If this is in the store its goanna confuse consumers they might think there getting the x-series version with this one.
