Poll Would u ever buy a console without exclusives? (79 votes)

Yes 38%
No 59%

Question for those that don't prefer handhelds. If all games go multiplats and available on steam. That means, no more exclusives for any of the consoles.

Would you still buy a console at that point?

Note: for those that somehow don't know this, you can actually easily connect your PC to your living room TV if you want.

On PC as well, then I wouldn't. That's an extra grand I can put into a new build. My upcoming is $3000CAD as is.

Were certain games only available on consoles, i'd buy the most powerful system.

Yes - for one reason only. If it was a Switch-like device.

This. The switch's dual role for portability & home console usage is what sets it apart from the rest imo. If only it had stronger hardware and better battery life it would be dope.

I don't like PC gaming. Xbox Series X is powerful enough for my needs for the next decade. I have 800+ games and will continue to buy more games for consoles and handhelds.

I don't like clients that hold your games hostage. I like being able to play my games offline if I want, I like sharing them with my family, I don't like upgrading and messing with hardware outside of new gen or mid gen iterative hardware.

All my friends and family are on consoles, and I like those ecosystems. Most of the games I play are niche, indie and Japanese.

I would only buy a console if it practiced no exclusivity.

One of the many reasons I prefer PC over console is because it is an open platform.

Sure. I prefer consoles over PC because I still like to get my games on a physical format and consoles still provide me with that. I also find them more convenient in general.

If your favourite games tend to be multi-platform then why not?

Given that the XSX is a bit more powerful than the PS4, if Cyberpunk 2077, Diablo 4 and Far Cry 6 performs better then the XSX will be much more viable than the PS5.

Nah. The only console that has a use outside of just being a gimped PC is the Switch, and I don't care for handheld play.

Definitely not. PC is vastly superior to consoles. I hate that I have to waste money on redundant and inferior hardware to play exclusives.

Yes, I bought the xbox one x simply to get 4k gaming and to get the best version of 3rd party games. There were very few exclusives I was interested in. I use my PS4 for exclusives.

@briguyb13: not that those aren't a bunch of fair points, but if you don't like games "locked down" on a client then consoles are the worst place to be. The entire console is a take-it-or-leave it physical manifestation of just one client on PC

I have never got this obsession with exclusives. As long as the PS has enough games I want to play then I am happy. Already I know the PS5 will serve my needs so I do not care about any game I am missing out on that doesn't come to the PS5.

The big games on my list will come to PS5 so I am happy.

There's always GOG Galaxy, they are DRM free. Steam has a family sharing mode too for up to 10 devices and 5 accounts, in case you weren't aware. The one benefit you may find is that there are a lot of obscure indie and Japanese games available. Galaxy 2.0 is going to offer you access to other clients through it.

I doubt I'll ever use a PC for gaming due to how toxic the community is.

I regret buying the Xbox One this gen because I also have a PC and it just didn’t pay off for me. I will say there wasn’t anything wrong with the Xbox One, just didn’t serve a purpose for me personally.

So I’ll be skipping the XsX next gen.

Yes. Even if Sony puts every game on PC I'll stick to PS5. I have absolutely no interest in PC gaming. Windows is garbage, I don't want to be bothered with tweaking settings or upgrading parts or downloading drivers or play MP games with hackers. I like having a plug and play experience from the comfort of my couch using a controller. Windows will never be able to compare to the simplicity of a console UI.

No. I don't have this unexplainable hate for PCs as some do.

PC person: "But you can do all that with a PC. And more".

Console person: "Yeah, but... I just don't like PC, ok?!"

No, I don't see the worth of a console game that I can own on the PC. I can play at much higher frame rates for the same or better graphical settings, I can use whatever control method I wish and I'll be more likely to have access to a larger range of mods.

The only regions were PC gaming truly thrives are the ones were consoles have been historically banned like Korea, unavailable like east Europe and Russia, or made prohibitively expensive by harsh import taxes like Brazil. Everywhere else, consoles reign supreme in hardware sales and particularly in game sales. Consumers vote with their dollars and they almost always vote for consoles over PC.

Pound for pound, PC's are the least efficient devices every conceived for playing games. They just are. A 700 dollar RTX 2070 Super can't even sustain 30 FPS with ray-tracing on at 4K in games like Control, and can barely maintain it at all with it turned off in Borderlands 3. Forget about it. A 700 dollar graphics card absolutely trounced by 500 dollar consoles, while consoles get dragged through the mud constantly for making reasonable compromises to performance and resolution.

I've been down the premium PC gaming path enough to know it's pitfalls and frustrations: inconsistent performance, compatibility issues. HDR support is a mess, an absolutely litany of different competing distribution platforms, often shoddy 3rd party device support, any gaming monitor above 1440P is crazy expensive, GPU's are always being hoarded by bitcoin farms, decent mice and keyboards are ludicrously expensive, windows is a near-constant irritant/tornado of hours-long updates that often bring new problems to troubleshoot. And on top of that, you get zero of the quality of life improvements new consoles have made: no instant suspend-resume of any game, much less multiple games, no automatic updates in sleep mode for anything, no portability of the Switch, and monstrously huge GPU's that need even bigger PC cases that aren't exactly easy to fit anywhere except a space uniquely dedicated to a giant gaming PC.

It's so impractical and dated, I can barely imagine putting together another gaming PC in a post PS5 and XSX world. And if the next Switch can put up even slightly decent performance numbers.....that's where I play all of my indie games. Not on the PC, not for the past few years. Especially since every time I check in on Steam for a big sale, I already got all the games I wanted previously and for less money on a PS store flash sale. PC gaming doesn't even have the best sales anymore. No wonder 80-90% of multiplat sales go to consoles. If you haven't been playing PC games for over 30 years, don't even respond because that's inferior experience to mine anyways. Like I said, take it from someone who walked that road for decades. It's not worth it anymore. So what's left? Piracy is still huge, despite what alot of people say. And there are indeed quite a few bad-faith console ports of PC games who just want the publisher money, and resent supporting the platforms at all. And these endlessly touted mod communities that often are exaggerated or don't exist at all, especially for small or old games.

If Nintendo and Sony games came to pc, I would happily never buy another console. That money spent on consoles would be spent on more of their games. Right now I have to be selective on which games I buy. I have no allegiance to any console and would love to not have to buy more consoles.
