Wolfenstein II runs on new engine, won't be crap

We at MachineGames are huge PC players, and all of id Software’s games have very strong PC DNA. So it’s important for us to make sure the PC version of the game is as solid as any console version. That’s why we built the game on idTech 6, which also allows for uncapped framerate – one of the features we’re most excited about.

Since many people were in doubt as ID tech 5 engine, which was used in Wolfenstein TNO and TOB, wasn't the best. And it caused a lot of issues like texture pop-in and failure to support 21:9 properly, among other issues.

I made this thread to let you know how Machine Games is improving things with Wolfenstein II, releasing this friday.

The game will support:

• Uncapped framerates
• 21:9 support
• 4K support
• FOV slider
• Chromatic Aberration on/off
• Depth of Field on/off
• and many more

These are all features essential to PC gamers, so I'm glad they are supported.

System requirements also look really good and make it seem like the game is as well optimized, if not better than DOOM last year.

I agree. engine is really nice. Id tech 6 is major improvement over id tech 5. it will run perfectly fine. and not run like crap.

but lets talk about game itself and it looks meh.

The game will pretty much support every setting you'd want:

Textures

AA

whatnot

But stuff that has become essential for me to enjoy games is especially 21:9 support and an ability to toggle off Chromatic aberration and Depth of Field.

if you mean RTCW then sure its closer. but new order was trash. i just couldnot complete it. and even i forced my self to. i rather play COD campaign than machine games wolfenstein and i wish id software would make wolf new order imagine how amazing it would be. no more focus on cutscene and (bad) story and more focus on pure gameplay and level design. i love story driven shooters. they are my fav but they need to have a good story to justify it.

Metro tell excellent story so its justify of bieng cinematic. but new wolfenstein games tell a bad story but still very story focus.

I ran Doom 2016 like butter smooth. I kinda figure I'll be fine with Wolfenstein II :)

Did TNO not run well on PC?

Genuinely curious as I only played it on PS4.

It had frame pacing issues and a capped frame rate.

Doesn't matter the game itself sucks......shitty story, boring characters and setting. Play something else.

It's not a really well thought out opinion, to say the least.

But should developers like MachineGames and Arkane really be punished when it's only Bethesda (the developer) doing paid mods ?

I feel that Bethesda (the publisher) is still one of the better big publishers out there because of their singleplayer focussed games.

Over the past year we've gotten: Dishonored 2, Prey, Dishonored Death of The Outsider, The Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein II... All singleplayer focussed games.

I can't think of any other AAA publisher that released so many quality singleplayer focussed games.

I saw jackfrags video, but I don't want to spoil too much as I am already very hyped for the game ^^

Aside from that it had a lot of texture pop in when you turned your characters head, a problem also frequently in RAGE.

And the 21:9 support was iffy.

Still though I feel WolfensteiN TNO was an incredibly fun and good looking game:

These should be features expected from all games, not features hailed as innovative changes, but only in an ideal world I guess. I appreciate what the team is doing and can't wait for Wolf2.

We have been getting some really great PC versions recently, from AAA studios that usually focus on console versions the most:

• Shadow of War
• Evil Within 2
• AC: Origins
• Wolfenstein II

It's just that, as I maily buy my games on PC, i'd like if reviews on gamespot (or some other review site) would go more in depth on how good the PC version actually is ?

Does it have all the features we came to expect ? Does it run well ? Does it have an FOV slider and such ?

But nope, nothing. Most times the PC version gets completely ignored. I can only think of a few site that do this like DSO and Digital Foundry, but they don't cover every game.

Game looks absolutely fantastic if you ask me.

So much stuff going on, so many effects on screen.

In fact, that is what most impressed me about DOOM: the effects and amount of them on screen.

hows it differ from the first game? I don't expect to have some new memorable interesting characters....even if it does, it'll still be set in a shitty olden day era with the same shitty protagonist...which i don't care about.

But I love games set in the olden day era :(
