Ocarina of Time has a metacritic score of 99. That's pretty impressive and is the highest MC score ever. It has only 22 reviews though. Do you think there will be a game that does better than that? Maybe Red Dead Redemption 2?

I wouldn’t say never, but it’s pretty unlikely.
I’m surprised the original world of warcraft didn’t match that score tbh.
Halflife 3 will be the most most
Get 1% higher, be undeniably (by any other measuring method, like reading) the best, most best game.
Anything lower than 96% and it's a bust.
Unless Metacritic changes their policy and bans troll reviews/scores, probably not.
Because in today’s world, there will ALWAYS be that 1 person to low ball a game for page hits. All it takes is 1 person to ruin everything.
And Nintendo troll reviewers will make sure to low ball any non Nintendo game.

That is based on what? 20 critics? These days at the very least there are 50 reviewers who post review scores(PS4 games have over 100 reviews). And out of those at least one or two is guaranteed to be a click bait review aka 60 to 70 score.
So short answer, no we won't get another 99 metacritic score.

Agreed. Looking at the Metacritic all-time list, the really impressive thing isn't OoT with its 99 and 22 reviews, but the GTA IV and V, the Super Mario Galaxies, with their 96-98 ratings and 60-80 reviews.
RDR2 will score as high but then there's that guy from iplaygamez.com that will give a 1/10 because he's offended by testicles.
Will be very difficult and as others have implied, not because no other good enough games will come out, but rather because of how the MC score averages work. Ocarina of time was a game changer for its time, the first Action game to have excellent 3D gameplay. So it definitely deserves its very high score, but whether it is 98 or 97, it is all the same for me honestly.
Like this tweet from MC, I mean in this particular case the scores reflect the fact that each game has gotten better than the last one, which I agree with, but at the same these little score difference are somewhat meaningless and don't hold up to scrutiny(i.e. is FH4 only 1% better than FH3 , that kind of thing)

Never say never, though to be honest maybe not in a long time. Critics are getting way more harsher, games barely score a 90+ anymore.
Also, check the Metacritic - only 22 reviews. Most game nowadays get 70-100+

And it only takes 5 to drop a game in the 80s.

Yeah it's insane. Honestly, it's almost as boring as Gamespot's new rating system. I miss the old school 8.9's.
Extremely unlikely as there are many more reviewers these days so this greatly reduces the chances for a game to score as high.
