I dunno. It is a very tall order. The wii is getting mario kart wii, and tales of symphonia 2 which is big in japan this year. Nintendo also stays tight lipped so who knows what kind of magic is in store. If the wii has a steady flow of software it has a chance.

Not a chance, PS2 sales are still amazing and there will be a price drop across Europe soon that will boost sales even more. Wii needs to have a library of games as good as PS2 if it wants to top PS2 sales to date. Wii will have some great games, but we all know third party support is still pretty crap and will be forever, this is Nintendo after all.

No, not when the PS2 is outselling the PS3 and X360 three years into this generation of consoles.

Nah, I dont see it doing that because when Next next gen comes the wii will not overlap the Wii 2 like the ps2 overlap the ps3

no. it might be more universally praised by everybody, but the sheer number of ps2s sold is simply too high a number. its simply out of reach and each console has become too specialized (which is definitely not a bad thing) to have the universal appeal the hype of the ps2 caused. plus it was a lot of families first dvd player, something the wii still cant do.

The PS2 is around 130 Million and is still selling over 200 000 in NA every month, + The Great Sales in PAL regions and Asia. I dont think anyconsole will ever reach the PS2. And Sony still has the ability to lower the Price.

The ps2 will have probably around 140 million consoles sold by the time Sony cuts its production.

I hardly think so. The Wii is selling strong now, but pretty soon, it's gonna die off fairly quickly (just a feeling I got.)

if the ps2 stops selling right now, then perhaps, but the ps2 just keeps selling....its just ridiculous, i could see it lasting 10 years possibly

No, but it's apples and oranges.

See, Sony sells hardware originally for a loss with intentions of recuping later. They're making all their profits from PS2 right now, so there is still incentive for them to support it.

Nintendo doesn't roll that way. And although I'm sure they'll support Wii as long as they can (and allow developers to do so) I think it'll be like the GBA and die very briskly after the next system catches on.

If any console has a shot, its the Wii. But I don't see it happening. I don't think any console could.

No. i doubt nintendo will keep it around for over 5 years. the wii will probably be the only one to get even somewhat close to what the ps2 sold in it's first 5 years.

I think the Wii will end up selling a ton of units, but PS2 continues to sell extremely well and will continue to for a long time. An amazingly extensive library will do that, though. Although, as a Wii owner, I'd rather the PS2 died off so developers would stop designing games for the PS2 and then port them to the Wii.

It needs to pass the NES and PSone before we start thinking of that. Heck it still needs to pass the Genesis and N64. We all know that one is coming up though.

Does anyone have figures on how much the PS2 had sold at the same time in its life as the Wii is at now?

If the Wii can't do it, then the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 definitely won't.

what helped push the ps2 was that it played DVD's, unlike the Wii.

since the wii is purely a gaming console, i would say no.

No, it'll sell amazingly throughout its lifespan but it just won't last long enough to outsell it.

No because I doubt people will need to replace their Wiis like they had to replace their PS2. Plus I doubt that the Wii will have as much good JRPGs that the PS2 had (I use my PS2 to play RPGs).

No. Everyone had to buy multiple PS2s because they had a year and a half long life span if you play it too much. My family ended up buying 5 altogether. the Wii, on the other hand, has a longer lifespan, and has good tech support.

if nintendo can manage 20 million per year for the next 4 years they will have resched 100 million. Plus another 2 years and its 140 million.
