Personally I think companies should start to shift away from last gen releases BUT if you already released a game that was last gen and this gen then you are screwing over those who bought on the last gen system. They should have to support all platforms that they initially released the original game on when releasing DLC

Buy a ps5 if you want to play it. Stop being poor.

The thing is, HFW is still a free upgrade (and that was before Sony could get away with charging people for it) to my knowledge and anyone who bought the PS4 version can just get the PS5 upgrade for free so technically nothing of value was lost and just buy the Expansion PS5.

It's pretty clear these last-gens are really holding current-gen consoles back.

Personally, I would only care, if I had bought a season pass on a PS4, and I don't know whether this game has a season pass or akin service to it.

In all fairness, this decision was made by Guerilla Games and not just Sony alone plus, Random Matt's comment is legit meaning you can upgrade HFW PS4 to PS5 free of charge...as far as I'm aware. Even CP2077's Expansion is only coming to current-gen and not for last-gen either.

The bottom line is, the main games were well ahead of development for last-gens, and doing any Expansions for current-gen does make senes as it's a fresh new development.

It sucks for PS4 owners who aren't ready to upgrade, but if there is a good reason the expansion can't be on the PS4, I can understand that too. It is time to move forward and leave last gen systems behind. Sony has already supported the PS4 deeper into the PS5 lifespan than they ever did with previous consoles. The free upgrade from the ps4 to ps5 softens this blow too. When someone does upgrade, the PS5 version is there for them and the dlc will be available for them to buy.

I have a PS5, so this doesn't negatively affect me, but I do understand the anger someone could have towards this news.

Lol, folks justifying this move and worse of all the suggesting that paying $400-$500 to play DLC on a game you already own is a reasonable expectation. 😂 How silly.

It would only be stupid if there was a better option. Buying a PS5 and getting a free upgrade on the original is the only option, consumers take that one option or not.

@thedork_knight: the reason is simple..they are using upselling tactics. Its very scummy thing to do, bait and switch, misleading, false advertisement but they do it because they can. They make the original work on the ps4, but get the expansion pack only for the ps5. It incentivizes more people to spend $$$ on a system nobody wants, like the ps5, especially when its still $500 and sold in a bundle. Very disgusting thing to do sony.

They have done this for spiderman already, go check miles morales. This isn't something new.

I wonder what the sales were like on the PS4. Maybe Sony are seeing that the vast majority of Horizon FW players were on the PS5.

Will have to see what the expansion itself is like too. Maybe trying to get it to run on a Ps4 would be a CP2077 situation all over again (i think the expansion for that is also not coming to the PS4 or X1).

I mean on the one hand it is pretty crappy to have DLC for a game on 2 devices only available for 1 device. It;s a bitter pill to swallow.

On the other hand: The PS4 is 9 years old and is still getting first party games. No one can accuse Sony of poorly supporting the PS4. The announcements of GOW: R, H:FW and GT7 having PS4 versions was a surprise. If they never came to the PS4 most people would think "yeah fair enough". At some stage they do need to pull the curtain on the PS4. This cross gen period has been too long as is.

Disagree you are actually smarter in a way for playing it on the PS4. Sure the graphics are a little better for the PS5 but it's a cross gen title the PS4 version cost less and it's the exact same game.

We CAN do hyper links on mobile. Simply switch your browser to desktop view and you'll be using Gamespot just like a pc.

Didn't something similar happen with the Final Fantasy Remake? Remake was on both gens, but then the additional one, I forget the name, was new gen only. It's most certainly upsetting, so I can sympathize.

Sonys business decisions are almost as baffling as Nintendo sometimes. I feel like Sony has been really bad with customer care this generation.

Except that isn't true. HW:FW was the last game that allowed you to get a " free upgrade " from PS4 to PS5. And the visual difference is by far the largest of the cross gen titles.

But to each their own. I simply wouldn't be playing these games if i had a PS4 and from now on future exclusives will not be coming to PS4.

That pissed me off with FFVII:R. I have a PS5 now, but I don't remember how to play the game after 2.5 years. At least Square doesn't make you have to repurchase it, unlike other publishers, but DLC should never cut off a segment of the user base.

Fuk PS4. I just want the Complete Edition with DLC included to come to PC soon. I have held off on the PS5 version.

Since when is it a big deal to not support last gen systems 2 years into current gen? FFXIV released on PS3 and the next DLC was only on PS4 and up. I think Destiny did something similar with PS3. Or maybe that was Destiny 2, idk. I guess it depends on what kind of DLC it is too. I'd imagine this will be a normal thing moving forward.

On topic yeah it is pretty lame bringing out dlc for a cross gen game just to the current gen. Nothing wrong with moving on to current gen but that something that should be done right from the get go with the base game.
