FANTOY ASIDE!! Please, just put it away.

Wii U - Cost of Console: $299.99 - [Comparable to modern Med-"low" tier Gaming PC]

Games are similar to this generation with a slight improvement in graphics and performance. Nintendo's focus is to try and attract some core gamers in addition to casual gamers as well. Nintendo's line-up is similar to previous generations and third party support is similar to the Playstation 3's, but with a less emphasis on big budget games and more "family-friendly" games.

Nintendo will be selling the console at a profit.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next Xbox - Cost of Console: $349.99 [Comparable to modern Med tier Gaming PC]

Microsoft's focus is to attract every kind of gamer and non-gamer to its platform. Microsoft will attempt to control the living room with it's overall entertainment box. Kinect will be a very important aspect of the console. Microsoft's focus for their games will be the same Halo/Gears(maybe)/Forza/Fable and smaller core digital titles. In addition, Microsoft will make a good amount of "casual" games via digital format. Third party support will be similar to that of the Wii U, more "family-friendly" games included. The hardware will be an improvement over the Wii U, but not as big as a traditonal generation jump.

Microsoft will be selling the console at a slight profit but will make it up with Xbox LIVE fees, etc.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Playstation 4 - Cost of Console: (Entry Console): $399.99 - (More Feautred Unit): $449.99 [Comparable to modern High tier Gaming PC]

Sony will be pushing the traditional sty-le of new consoles (however by using conservative hardware). The PS4 is more powerful than the Next Xbox by a good margin and much more powerful than the Wii U. Sony's first party support will trimmed down to it's best selling IP's and will be more cautious about funding new IPs. Third party support will be similar to the Xbox 360's, however third parties might be a little cautious due to the PS4's higher price tag. Non-gaming services will also be a big part of the Sony Network experience, but won't be as developed as Microsoft's.

Sony will be selling the console at a zero-profit but no lost as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

None of the consoles will be able to match a enthusiast/very high end Gaming PC.

Would ride the Nintendo wave again with much reduced expectations after the Wii letdown. The PS4 also sounds promising. If your description of the Xbox is true (there are no LIVE fees) then I would check out the Xbox as well, but we all know that's not happening :(

I'd be funny if Sony prices itself too high again.

I was thinking that if Microsoft did indeed went with lower than traditional end hardware, then their more direct competitor would be Nintendo instead of Sony. This would leave Sony able to exploit the chance and not change at all. They could have a marketshare similar to that of the [Xbox 360 + PS3] since they will be alone in the high end console market.

The bad thing is that how is Sony going to convince developers to release for their more powerful console and ignore the two weaker ones.

I'd get all three.

The best way to form an opinion on a console is to own it, play with the hardware/OS/features extensively and try out all the games for it.

I plan on forming an opinion on all three consoles next gen.

The circumstances are highly unlikely.

There is no way to build the equivalent to a modern high end PC and yet be able to sell the console at cost, much less make a profit.

Playstation 4.

Since microsoft went all kinect crap with their first party developers. Why would I want to pay over 30 euro a year to play 3rd party games online.

Im actually regretting selling my ps3 and sticking to 360. Atleast Halo 4 will keep me somewhat happy.

Well if Nintendo draws in some third-party support and focuses more on core-game support than they did on the Wii I would probably go with that one. As much as I'd like to own all three again, this next gen I'll be waiting to purchase the second and third console after the first.

PS4 sounds the most appealing from you're description. But, I'm a fan of Halo so Xbox would be the way to go. I would not even consider the Wii U at this point

I will buy whichever console has great games. So, unless one of them releases poop on a stick and tries to call it a game console, I will be buying them all just like I do with every generation.

Except I think its backwards, PS3 will be mid rangs PC equivelent and next xbox will be high end PC equivelent. Unless opinions don't matter ... even still i'd get the MS product first. Eventually all three.

I've had a Wii and a 360 from this current generation and can honestly say I won't be purchasing any of the new consoles. I think you have done a good job outlining what the new consoles could very well be but at this point in my life console gaming really doesn't appeal to me.

I must say I am a little dissapointed by the rumours that Sony and Microsoft are taking a more conservative approach with the hardware (if the rumours are true) I was hoping for a good leap forward which generally will benefit the PC.

Because there is no leap I guesss all I can hope for is tha the 'hardcore' gamers who don't want the new casual nature of console gaming forced down their throat to build a gaming PC, which may force developers to bring some higher budget exclusives that can actually take advantage of the superior hardware.

Well by the time the next gen rolls around I will have my degree and have took my place with a major Oil company that I have lined up and be on 40k a year so I could just get them all but I doubt I'l have enougth time for that.

I'l definatly be getting the PS4 simply because I don't like online, racing games or shooters and Sony offers that variety of 1st party exclusives that I love and has the 3rd party support the x-box has.
I'l probably get the Wii for Zelda (Which is worth it alone imho)
And upgrade my PC, I'm currently using a 3 year old Laptop which isn't even a gaming laptop (But it can run Shogun2 Total War so no complaints)
X-box is a maybe it really depends. I don't buy into this Kinect thing and there exclusive games don't really intrest me (Unless they can make RARE start turning out good games again but I see this as unlikely)

Knowing me as I do, I'll settle with the new Playstation and Xbox consoles. Nintendo has a sh!tload of convincing me to do and even then I'd probably wait a least a year before I'd consider it. I don't like their relationship with 3rd parties and they roll out their own games too slowly. They have to significantly change the way they produce content on their console and that probably isn't going to happen. Also, they've gone to the well way too many times. New IPs please.

Sounds PS4 (with a 3rd party controller, as I really dislike the PS controllers) is the winner here.

PS4 and 360, I hope MS doesn't go the way you think they will. I've lost most love for nintendo, they need to mix it up with their games and less with their systems.

Same as always. Gaming PC I'll always have.

Console? Nintendo which means WiiU.

Two different systems with very different games.

The above are the essentials. The other two (Sony and MS) are optional.

Depends on exclusives. If I even buy a console next gen, it's gonna be mid-gen anyway, so there will be some exclusives out already. The scale tips towards PS4s favor though, casue I like Sony's IPs better for a living room console, and I also see KH3 and the next MGS game being there.

I retract my earlier answer. I'm not getting any console. Sticking with PC/3DS for the foreseeable future, unless someone gives me a reason to buy their next console. No, Halo 5, Zelda HD and Uncharted 4 won't be enough to sway me.

PS4/Wii U For me a lot is riding on whether or not Nintendo's next console will get shafted on multiplats or not. The Wii U being vastly under powered, and the Next Box requiring 24/7 online would be the two biggest turnoffs for me personally.

By the time the next gen consoles hit the market I will have enough $$ for a beefy gaming PC. This, unfortunately will be my last console generation. The direction this gen has taken has been extremely disappointing for me, and from what I am seeing next gen will be even worse. No thanks consoles. It's been fun since 1995 but now it's time to move on.
