One game that comes to mind for me is Sakura Wars on PS4. This was my first game in the series and what I loved about this game was the animation and art style and overall charm. It did feel like you were in an anime lol.Too bad the mech segments were generic.

How about you, SW? When you think of unique games, what games come to mind?

Catherine is the first one that comes to my mind, there are several others more quirky, like Katamari or muscle march, but i get this feeling that Catherine is more unique than them, can't explain why though.

@Pedro: @uninspiredcup: Any of you Shiny fans ever play Brutal Legend? I think the reason I enjoyed the RTS parts that everyone else hated, was because they reminded me of Sacrifice. Simplified for a controller, sure, but I still had fun.

Well, it would be interesting for Sega to have Altus make a new Sakura Wars game. Because it is their Persona series that best uses the template of combining dating sim and RPG mechanics that Sakura Wars innovated. And now SEGA owns Atlus.

As for a unique game, I'd say SEGA's Seaman (1999). I wish they'd remake it with the modern AI technologies, and let us have that cocky man-fish that recognizes your voice and talks to you as an AI pet, haha.

I always liked the game Quantum Conundrum for being both fun and unique. Shame it never got a sequel.

I think of STARFIELD. Its incredibly unique to think that 2002 loading screens are OK to be released in 2023.

Catherine and Nier Automata were pretty unique, though I didn't enjoy those games much.

Crazy Taxi was kind of unique. I bought it for Dreamcast and thought I would have a fun but very short arcade-like experience. But I found out it had exceptionally deep gameplay.

A lot of other games were unique when they first came out. Here are a few on top of my head.

Double Dragon (Arcade). First scrolling beat'em'up which had a lot of interesting weapons to pick up, and you could climb up ladders. Wow!

Wipeout (PS1). First time we experienced amazingly fast 3D spacecraft racing.

Exploding Fist 2 (C64). A scrolling beat'em'up consisting of more than 100 screens. Revolutionary at its time.

Larry 1. The first RPG game with the objective to bang women.

Bioshock. The world felt so unique.

Nier Automata was great, so surprised they haven't announced a sequel.

@SolidGame_basic: Yeah, but when you make sequels, the first game loses some of its uniqueness.

@judaspete:

Yeah, Brutal Legend was pretty unique, maybe thanks to Jack Black's voice.

Why are there so many posts in this thread and not a single mention of the most unique game ever conveived, Death Stranding?

Since the inception of videogaming in the 1970s until this day, 50 odd years later there is only one Strand type game ever created - Death Stranding.
