I can see WiC getting in the running for GOTY, but not sure it will win

He might be talking about how there is no dirt farming or base building.

"World in Conflict is an action game masquerading as an RTS" . That's what the reviewer said . You don't have to build stuff and build an economy so it's not the traditional RTS.

It is not traditional, but it is still a RTS game.Last RTS game of the year was Warcraft 3 I believe.Frostbite24
Nah, Metroid Prime won it that year. At least on GS.
Here's a list of gamespot's GOTYs, straight from wikipedia:
1996: Diablo (PC)
1997: Total Annihilation (PC)
1998: Grim Fandango (PC)
1999: EverQuest (PC)
2000: The Sims (PC) and Chrono Cross (PS)
2001: Serious Sam: The First Encounter (PC) and Grand Theft Auto III (PS2)
2002: Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (PC) and Metroid Prime (GameCube)
2003: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (GameCube)
2004: World of Warcraft (PC)
2005: Resident Evil 4 (GameCube)
2006: Gears of War (Xbox 360)
So, the answer to your question is 2002, with Warcraft III
[QUOTE="amorbis1001"]since SC but SC 2 migh change that next yea....... oh wat next year is 08 console year again forget it. not for now.whoody12
everything can flop, even MGS4 ( not even saying KZ2, becouse I KNOW it will flop)

Real - Time - Strategy...
Think about the words within that acronym. A RTS is a strategy game where units are controlled in real time. It doesn't say anything about economy, base building or even the amount of action within the game. The fact is that WiC is a RTS and it fits the RTS definition.
Stop living in a box. I guess Dawn of War is not an RTS either since there is no "economy" (AKA Gold, Crystals, Gas, whatever) am I right? Doesn't make sense to buy troops with Strategic Points, am I right?

Well there is a big difference between "true" and "traditional". And if you really meant traditional your first post would be irrelevant.I never played a serious sam game but I do kno it is pointless shooting. shoot every thing that moves.
[QUOTE="amorbis1001"]lol serious sam over halo 1. THIS IS MADNESS!!!!!!!!!!Paktahn
Seriou Sam was PC GOTY in 2001. They had seperate awards back then but it did beat a lot of other great games including Civ 3 and RTCW.
I just notice every game in the 90s were pc goty but then they split it and the joined it all again I guess console hve notw caught up the PC gamming.

"Traditional" RTS games (In your view) only existed since Dune 2. There were plenty of RTS games that diverge from the regular Resource Gathering/Base Building formula, you know.

So now cuz it got coop it is pointless. heck i dont care if halo halflife gears of war or serious sam is pointless video games are based on fun factor and the more fun the better even if the fun is pointless shooting creatures more that the other guy in coop.

I would argue that Starcraft is better and I'm pretty shocked it didn't at least tie Grim Fandango for GOTY.

i loved starcraft and HL, but grim fadango was quite unique and all three of these games deserve GOTY equally, but only one of them could be chosen

woah, total agreement here
omg have never even heard of grim fandango up until now. I guess I need to play it huh. but wat I dont understand is, SC and ZOLoot was well just perfectand didn't get goty, so is fandango really better than SC and Zoot i want to play it but I believe I wont get into it as is seems too olnd and boring, although I did get into SC last year.

actually it got goty over starcraft and hl. zoot got console goty i think. i would not say its better that these games, but it did deserved the award. if it was me i would have give hl,starcraft and grim fadango goty combines. if you lie adventure ( different from action adevture) then grim fadango is a definite play

Being unique should only be a major factor if it contributes to the gameplay. Personally, I found more enjoyment in the long run with Starcraft and Half Life than Grim Fandango. This is not to diminish GF as a game, however.
Well you are just being ignorant.:| You haven't played the game.HUH :o problem with serious sam being fun..no problem with serious sam getting higher than halo pointless shooting fun yeah. but I cant change anything so I I just use gameranking to see wat game are goty instead of GS. gameranking is right on the spot correct when it comes down to decisions.

bear in mind that if console games were eligible for GOTY back then OoT would have crushed that game. In fact, if it was a united list from year one, the GOTY list might look something like this:
1996- Super Mario 64
1997-Goldeneye or Final Fantasy 7 (cant decide)
1998-Ocarina of Time
1999- Everquest
2000- The Sims
2001-Grand Theft Auto III
2002-Metroid Prime
2003- Wind Waker
2004-Warcraft
2005-RE4
2006-Gears of War

omg now your calling me ignorant cuz I havent played the game. I saw the videos of the game and it was the samee thing over and over, thats why I first called it pointless, but then it reminded me of painkiller. ok as you wish you want me to say serious sam is better than halo. ok let me go with GS and say serious sam is better than halo.you happy now.
