I sort of gave up interest in the Steam Machines once I found out that only a limited amount of video games on Steam will work for it, because the operating system it uses is Linux based. I'm not sure what to get, I am in for a long wait.
If you want to PC game it's not a very hard thing to get into. There are a few paths you can take.
I know, for me personally, it only took me about an hour to learn how to build a PC. I read a tutorial, pieced together a PC, and asked on a forum if it'd all work together. Once I got the "okay" I bought it, put it together (which is more simple than legos), and I've never looked back.
If you don't want to go that route you can always just get a pre-built Windows PC. It's just a bit more expensive to go that way.
Honestly, the best place to get started would just be to visit a PC forum. I bet the PC gamers here on Gamespot would be more than happy to help you get started if it's something you want to do.
