What's the worst downgrade?

Hello. Big fan Onward, it's very much Ghost Recon, with terrorist hunt in VR.

VR isn't really suited for fast paced games like DOOM, they tried, it was terrible. For slower, heavier FPS with an emphasis on precision, tactical shooters are a perfect fit.

Sadly, in order to get those Oculus Quest bucks, they patched it, and... it was, or rather is, an unmitigated disaster.

I'm wondering, is this the worst downgrade in history?

To be clear, we are talking about single platform downgrades be pre-release fakery or later alterations.

Hmm... Watch Dogs blew up. I feel like it's that one.

But basically, a lot of Ubisoft titles because they have to make a game that consoles can handle.

@jasonofa36: Gotta be honest, still think a lot of those games still look really good, particularly Far Cry 4.

@uninspiredcup: The ones after Watch Dogs have toned it down a bit. Watch Dogs e3 vs retail was night and day. Even with the e3 mods, it couldn't compare. I mean, have you seen the smoke effects?

It's Crackdown 3 multiplayer... it was always Crackdown 3 multiplayer.

Well, people like seeing fancy graphics and not necessarily real world gameplay.

Damn yeah, pretty strong case for Onward lol. The fact that it happened well after release makes it that much worse.

That's because at the time, everyone thought it was running on PS4 before PS4 was ready to release and when everyone found out it was on PC, everyone lost it and yeah, it got downgraded because of PS4/Xbox One.

PC gamer had an article clarifying (or maybe speculating) on why everything gets downgraded on PC...if I remember correct. Sometimes demos they were specifically made for shows like E3 or trailers etc, sorta like the Witcher 3 demo which might seem open-world but wander outside its off-screen borders and the game breaks down or something. So developers/publishers optimize for consoles since they should be identical within themselves, (Not to mention if Sony/MS is still doing their exclusive missions or content BS, then there is money involved. And the devs want to keep receiving that money) and then, they can BS about PC's being different and therefore optimize poorly on that front. Also Aliens: Colonial Marines as a perfect example of loading up a bunch of crap in the trailer, only to not come anywhere near close to it.

I know every PC might blame Witcher 3 for its the worst downgrade on PC, I would agree but at least the game itself was still amazing. CDPR simply overestimated both PS4/Xbox One (especially Xbox One the most) specs and power. When they got the kit, it is too underpowered so they have to get it down and they wanted to make 2 versions of the game, but eventually, it would've blown up their budget, and that cost tones of money to do so. In other words, they ran into a dead-end.

I'd say, Crackdown 3 was by far the worst downgrade I ever have seen and the final version was just outdated. ReCore was 10x better than Crackdown 3.

I never played Crackdown 3, but I heard it was awful.

Watch_Dogs man I was so hyped for the game that E3 2012 demo was amazing. It was suppose to show what next gen graphics where going to look like. Honestly it left a shit stain on this whole generation for me first impressions are everything it just exposed how weak console hardware was from the beginning. Granted other games have surpassed this but still this shows what was possible on PC back in 2012 before it was downgraded for console parity.
