What do you think is the most important part of a video game?

Honestly I perfer a good story, that to me is teh most important.

Gameplay then followed by story.

I can play a game with little to no story and yet still find it fun due to its terrific gameplay (Gears of War, Lumines), yet a game with a terrific story but terrible gameplay just doesn't cut it. Lair seemed to have a decent story, yet I couldn't push through it because of the sloppy Sixaxis controls at the time.

probably gonna have to go with gameplay but tbh its about equal to me with story.

I prefer great gameplay granted its nice to get the whole package, but if I can only have one it's got to be the gameplay.

Gameplay and Graphics are tied for number 1. Overall Design and Story next, then MP.

The Gameplay

I think the story and the characters, i mean if the game has a good story but the characters are lame you dont get attached and you cant get drawn into it (a good example is final fantasy 12 good story but the characters were meh..)

The gameplay has to be the most important thing because if it looks nice but you can't move around it's pretty bad.Cruse34

Graphics for me followed closely by story and gameplay.

The only thing that makes games games, which is the gameplay of course.

Gameplay > Sound > Graphics > Story A story is very nice to have, but it isn't needed like the other 3.mo0ksi

Gameplay ofcourse but I love a great story as well.

That's hard because it depends on the game...

Legend of zelda I look for gameplay (puzzles, items, weapons, armor etc...) and story just about right next to each other.

other games I look for gaphics solely, like racing games. (I expect good gameplay and playability to be a given)

I never play online, but games like halo and l4d for online.

I would have to go with other. The most important thing is that it works.

Gameplay. everything else is important too

I voted gameplay, but story comes in a really really close 2nd place IMO.

Even if the gameplay is nothing great a great story can give a game the awesome status.
