For me it has to be Far Cry. Some parts of it can be insanely hard and frustrating, especially since it keeps all the old-school health/armor mechanics.

killzone 2 on elite mode.

If you played it without the knife, yes. Too bad the Helghast seem to have a huge weakness to the combat knife no matter what difficulty your playing on :p
Still is a very rewarding feeling when you finally beat it, though.
Although, TBH.....this is probably the most difficult game I've ever played:
http://www.realitymod.com/
The level of tactics and coordination required just to get within a kilometer of the target zone is unbelievable....lol.
Stalker. But the game was so immensely satisfying that the difficulty wasn't that much of a bother.Stevo_the_gamerlol Get yourself any 5.56 rifle, a silencer, and a scope, and I promise you you'll see the limitations of STALKER's difficulty REAL fast. Aim for the head, stay out of their sight/detection range, and you can clear an entire compound without a single point of damage. AI's real brilliant *eyeroll*
Bohamia Interactive FPSes (Operation Flashpoint, Arma, ARMA2) easily.
From non-tactical ones...hard to say...Chaser on hardest diffuculty was a nightmare :D
I'm going to say Wolfenstein 3d not because of the hard mazes you have to traverse with out a map and most of the walls in the game are identical. I still love this game though.
Splinter cell games, Ive never beat one yet. You think I should try before they shut down the xbox servers?
Not sure if it counts as a shooter but Sniper Elite. That game was so methodically paced that if you got impatient and tried to rush just once, you would be dead instantly. One of the best and most realistic games I have ever played. I wouldn't recommend it to any of you guys, though. The game scored a 7.4, and according to most people in SW, that = unplayable
O I had that for PS2! Such a great game! So intense, spend like an hour slowly crawling through the ruins of Berlin, watching every single window for a Nazi head.... Good stuff :DNot sure if it counts as a shooter but Sniper Elite. That game was so methodically paced that if you got impatient and tried to rush just once, you would be dead instantly. Yeah, it's one of the most immersive games out there. The only game where I truly felt like the character I was playing. On the harder difficulties you would literally have to crawl around for hours. Definitly not a game for the impatient.

Esnedon
Same here. PC Far Cry in Realistic Difficulty since the AI can see right through dense foliage and even while prone inside a Quonset hut. It's as if their eyes have thermal sights built-in.
FEAR on Extreme is also a good challenge.
It wasn't that hard to be honest, albeit pleasantly challenging, but never cheap.Ikaruga because you didn't say FPS or TPS you just said shooter :P. This game is really hard to get a decent rank on.
Operation Flashpoint, ArmA series...
1:"Enemy... 12 o' clock"
1:"12, engage ... soldier!"
*pop your little head up, do 2 shots *thomp thomp thomp*... *arghhhh!*
3:"Oh no... 12... is down!"
Zoom out of your body with a quote like:
Barbara Bush: War's not nice
xD
Seriusly, on hardest difficulty, you're dead meat any way you play it if your with AI only.
KZ2 on Elite. I actually find CoD WaW on Vet harder but it uses such cheap tactics (grenade spamming, infinite enemies) that I won't count it.
CoD: WaW is probably up there on Veteran, the amount of grenades was just halarious, Mass Effect 2 on Insanity was pretty tough just because of a few moments, mainly where the harbinger just climb over cover you're behind. Oh yeah and Perfect Dark Zero on Perfect/Dark agent because of the complete lack of checkpoints.
Stalker Clear Sky. The ending sequence is ridiculous. There are hundreds of enemies, grenades don't miss, you have to take down a chopper, and no one seems to drop a damn med-kit. If you didn't pack around 30 before you start the level, you're screwed.GeneralShowzerYeah, I actually gave up on trying to beat that and just cheated. lol Other 2 stalkers were easy, no problem. But Clear Sky was just insane.
