So, simple enough question.

What TOP 3 videogame websites do you look to as your go to sources when it comes to reviews?

In addition to that, what top 3 videogame websites do you think are the most popular and which do you think are the most informative with their review write-ups?

I'm not talking about the community, the forums, or anything news or media related. Just straight up game reviews.

Which places make you feel secure about picking up a game you are on the fence about?

P.S: I obviously realize a good majority of those on here will choose this website lol.

I don't really give much on other peoples opinion, especially from professional sites. That's why I barely ready any reviews and even if I look at one, I usually "fly over it", just looking for the usual buzzwords. I guess if I had to name 3, it would be Metacritics, Steam user reviews and Gamespot.

The only website's opinion that i care about is giant bomb. Arthur Gies from Polygon generally has reviews that i agree with as well even though he's an insufferable asshole.

I stopped caring about game and, more recently, movie reviews a while back. Most of the ones I see aren't very insightful or useful.

Rock, Paper, Shotgun (Best reviews hands down but only for PC)

Gamespot (mostly to make fun at lems here but I also enjoy some reviews, also for console reviews)

Metacritic (to get a feeling of the general feeling behind a game)

More often than not it is a particular well made review that convinces me to get a game I haven´t previously decided to get.

I don't really go to gaming websites for reviews. I generally just go with what I'm interested in. For further essays and opinions on games, I like going to Youtube for channels such as Mattewmatosis, gaming brit and Joseph Anderson. There are also a number of Gamasutra, Extra Credits and Game Design Aspect blogs and articles.

If anyone has any other sites/blogs like this, that would be great!

Metacritic generally gives me the average of all the reviews out there. After that I decide for myself. Although I do go to DSOG for the performance review of PC games.

I mostly just use IGN, but in reality I usually go there AFTER I've reviewed the game on my site to check and see how their impression aligns with my own.

I don't trust the reviews published here or Polygon, too much marketing in place of real journalism on the two sites.

Now I just go to YouTube. There are plenty of people there who take their job seriously and provide quality thorough reviews. ACG reviews are great.

Not sure. I usually type say, "Fallout 4 reviews" in Google and go from there.

Sometimes, I go to YouTube to see game reviews. I'm not a spoiler wuss. It's fine if I see some of the story on display.

If the game has been out a while, I check the Metacritic professional reviews.

I used to read alternative/user reviews. But, I found out the games which I thought were good aligned much better with professional reviews.

Really I only ever read Game Informer reviews. Not that I think they are head-and-shoulders above other sites, but it's just a habit at this point and after so many years of reading them you get a good idea of who each reviewer is and how valuable their opinion is on certain games. I also look at the scores GS gives games because I load the front page whenever I come here and it gives a nice prelude to what I'm gonna see on SW, but I rarely read them.

More than anything now though, I've started to follow what I do with movies and not read any reviews until after I finish the game. If I'm interested in a game it's generally for a good reason and I doubt that some idiot's opinion would really change my mind about playing it.

None, back in the day I just walk into a video game store check the game, read what it is about, similar to now when a game is announced and shown gameplay of it I decide to get it. Reviews don't really impact my purchase decision. Not to mention that if we are going by reviews I have enjoyed a lot of games that have had lower score reviews.

PC Gamer, Total Biscuit, EZA or user reviews. Sometimes Giantbomb but only if they also have a discussion about things because nobody there really has the same taste in games as me. I still consider them to be above the norm for anything that isn't Nintendo.

Don't take any website seriously anymore. I look at overall reception from both critics and users. I try to find out about Pros and Cons of the game. If Cons don't bother me then I try the game myself.

This.

Game (and movie) journalism is a fucking joke.

I really liked it back when Greg Kasavin, Jeff Gerstmann and some other good peeps were doing reviews, since they explained the games and why they think like they do. Reviewers now are either too stupid to do this, or they're just fishing for traffic, or they've been paid by the company who made the game.
