For it? To save some money or new is the only way to go?

This is my stance, previous generation or older buy used, value is low, price is low, easy to get etc. Current generation only buy new, they are too expensive to run the risk of hardware failure with no warranty or ability to return them in the event something goes wrong.
It's really that simple.
Most old school hardware was built tougher than todays stuff. I have no issue buying used if its a cartridge based system. Start being iffy when it gets to lasers and disc based stuff. The moving parts can be trouble.
If I had anything against it, I wouldn't buy them used. Same deal with games, even though some posters, like publishers, WANT you to hate them (at least, that's what I remember during the last discussions on used items).
I welcome it with open arms. I bought a used but like new condition DSLR camera and it's good as new but it saved me so much money. I don't frequent game stores like GameStop as much anymore but if I do and find something used with a good price, I'll pick it up. There are deals for used products online too so if it's too good to pass up I'll get it. But lately with games I've gone digital. I look for deals for currency instead and there are certain mobile apps and certain reward programs like Bing, Sony and Xbox Rewards that hands out gift cards free. We game share as well so that saves me even more money. I usually buy new games I'm really interested at day one or week one. And since I use the free gift cards for the new digital games, I'm not really paying the new game full price. Lately especially with backlog, I have no problem in waiting for game prices to go down too. I think they usually have game sales after 2 months or so. So it's not really the condition of the product I'm concerned about, I'm more interested in the price. I like getting things free or heavily discounted but if you do buy a used product, just make sure they have a good return policy.

this...for me as well.
Unless it's older hardware, like something from a previous gen, I absolutely will not buy used hardware.
I would buy it used if
1. It's no longer in stock at most retail stores/Amazon
2. It's not sold digitally
Unless I absolutely cannot find it new anywhere, I refuse to buy anything used. I find it disgusting.
@raugutcon:
Obviously, I was talking about games. Systems, on the other hand, I'm quite neutral on it. The fact that people can regret impulse buys and try to sell it on Kijiji exists.
I'm guessing we are only taking about games systems here being system wars and all? Personally the only used console I've purchase was a 360. It broke. It did get replaced as it was under warranty though, this also broke. Got a third one also under warranty and this worked flawlessly until I sold it a year or so ago. It was a good thing I purchased used from a store that gave a warranty on used consoles.
I suppose my bad experience of used consoles is mainly down to how piss poor the early 360's were though.
Only bought used consoles when there was no new ones left. IE when my kid broke my DC and some much older consoles I didn't have first go round. But I buy new models when they release.
I managed to break my ps3 like 3 times last gen. I think it's safe to say that I'll never buy used, I need warranties.
