What makes you a hardcore gamer? Is how much you play, the kind of games you play, or the style you play them in? Well heres your chance to answer why you think your a hardcore gamer.

For me personall, I think I am a hardcore gamer because of the amount of video games I play and the kinds of games I play. As I do enjoy a casual romp through Halo 3, I seem to sit down and enjoy games like Sins of a Solar Empire, Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, the Total War Series, and other deeper RTSs. When I really want to dive in deep, I seem to lean more towards the hardcore simlations.

For example I play ArmA with the ACE Mod. Heres a little video of what a typical squad night is like for me. Since that game requires a full squad to really enjoy, I have been playing a mod for BF2 called Project Reality. Thats pretty much a whole rework of BF2.

As for games I'm realy looking forward to. Empire Total War comes to mind.

Other titles like Operation Flashpoint 2

This is what makes me a hardcore gamers, and im proud to say that (although it proves I'm a loser). What makes you a hardcore gamer?

I thnik to be considered "hardcore" you must be nothing short of being obsessed with gaming. Considering most people aren't, most people aren't hardcore gamers.

I don't consider myself a hardcore gamer, in fact I find the term and its acceptance insulting.

I'm a hardcore gamer because my life revolves around games. :D Games like WoW and WC3 come to mind, but really I try to play every big game that comes out, if not right away then eventually.

The amount of games you've played means nothing if they are easy to beat.

Challenge! You love games that's challenging, games that requires you to think well and fast. That's what makes you a hardcore gamer imo

Dedication to playing video games is what defines a "hardcore" gamer. "Hardcore" has nothing to do with objects, but with people. People can be "hardcore," games could not regardless of how some expand the term in a way that was never intended.

I personally think it is unfortunate that some people inappropriately re-define terms as a way to be divisive ("us versus them" mentality) and set up man-made "rules" so to inflate their egos. Those who claim to be "hardcore" gamers are mostly what I call "posers" and "legalists."

As for me, I have been gaming for over 25 years (since the Atari 2600 generation) and I never thought of myself as a "hardcore" gamer. Even though in the past that I have played some games for more than several hours (Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart DS, Final Fantasy IV), most cases I play them to pass the time.

I don't know who came up with this "hardcore" thing anyway. I mean everyone have his own way of enjoying game. I've been playing games my whole life, and I visit gaming forums daily, I don't have to beat a game on a stupidly hard difficulty to be qualified as "hardcore" gamer. Well this is my opinion anyway, sorry I've should've added 'IMO' in my post above. :)

I don't like the term "hardcore" either. I did a study on gamers and what they think the definitely of hardcore is and most of them said that it's the amount of time you invest in games. I would agree that if you invest a large amount of time in any hobby, that makes you pretty hardcore right? If you spend a lot of your waking hours doing one particular thing, wouldn't that make you pretty obsessed with it?

But then, you realize that there are plenty of people who play Tetris, Bejeweled and other so-called "casual" games for hundreds of hours, how is that any less "hardcore" than the ones who play shooters online? You're still putting in an enormous amount of time in something that you enjoy. I don't think its right to label people with this title because it's obvious that there are some who frown upon "casuals" and then others who roll their eyes at "hardcore." Can't we just all be fanboys... err gamers? ;)

I don't think it's just the amount of time you invest, but the variety as well. Mix in different genres, a couple hours of RPGs here and there, couple hours of survival horror, couple hours of action/adventure, etc.

I think it is some elitist attitude when people say I am a hardcore gamer because I play this game or that game. So by going by the theory that games make a gamer hardcore a person could play those so called hardcore games for 1 hour every month and then be considered hardcore. I agree with what the others have said it is the amount of time spent playing not the games. Also think of it this way. Who is more "hardcore" a person that plays a ton of $5 bargain bin Walmart games everyday non-stop or a person that plays Starcraft or Crysis for a little bit every other week? I would consider the non-stop bargain bin player.

I don't really think I'm a hardcore gamer but I'm obsessed with gaming that when I'm not playing them I'm talking about them. So I would say I'm obsessed but not Hardcore because to be Hardcore IMO you have to be both Obsessed and good at games. I'm only obsessed I'm good when it comes to the people I'm friends with but I would never really win at alot of the games.

So I would be called a Geek since I like gaming so much that I want to learn everything I can about Videogames and the History of Gaming.

I don't think so...

So someone who only plays World of Warcraft and doesn't play anything else = hardcore?

I think it is your variety of games you play, always searching for that special something. You enjoy multiple genres of games and are open to new gaming ideas. My roommate who thinks he is a hardcore games owns 5 xbox 360 games, Halo 3, Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Ghost Recon, and Battlefield Bad Company. I don't consider someone like that hardcore at all.

1) Playing games outside mainstream stuff. Thgis mainly refers to PC gamers as there are many small games available which may not hot retail but are very good and unique. I remember someone I knew used to play Battlefield before it became reatail yet stopped when it became retail as all the casual gamers ruined the structure.

2) Playing in clans. Practising toghether ect. Playing in clan matches whwere more skill and planning is involved.

3( Playing in tournemants

4) Keeping up with gaming news beyond TV ads.

True quite often though recently alot of casuals have been calling themselves gamers. I'ld say more acurate is if you refer to yourself as only a gamer.

I've always considered competitive gamers hardcore, specificly the ones who provide housing and rides for those who travel across the country and others to compete in tournaments while attending them their selves.

I am a hardcore gamer. Sorry... but I am. And you know exactly what I mean when I say that.
