What is your favorite home console? (fifth gen onward)

Dreamcast for me, I had the most fun with it and my best gaming memories are tied to it.

@nyadc: It was an amazing console, and it is one of my regrets that I was never there when it was a current system. It had so much character.

PS2, followed closely by the GC/PS1.

I got it at launch, I remember showing up to FuncoLand at 5am on 9/9/99, had 10 games preordered with it. Back then is when trading things in actually amounted to something, I was able to trade in my N64 with 29 games and get all of that for it.

It may have been Sega's last console, but at least they left on a high note.

I have the best memories from the original Xbox, followed by Gamecube.

Oh yeah man, the Dreamcast launch was huge, it was also the most successful launch up until that point, that console had so much potential and could have competed neck and neck with the PlayStation 2, but a few oversights with the design and the marketing cost it its life in the market.

@nyadc: I still think they would have done so much better if they had just bothered to include the DVD drive.

Eh.. much more importantly, they shouldn't have released the 32x and to a lesser extent sega CD.

Then the crap Sega of america pulled with the saturn. DVD didn't kill sega, Sega killed Sega.

Design wise, sans the hard Control stick, it was just fine. It could compete with the Ps2 on a technical level. Hell, it was ahead of it in the online space.

Yeah see that is the unfortunate thing, the Dreamcast didn't die due to really any fault of its own or as a system, it died because of Sega's mishandling of it and the systems before it.

Ya'all should read Service Games: The Rise and Fall of Sega. You would like it a lot. It's stupidly cheap on Amazon iirc.

The Saturn, I guess. It's harder for me to pick if the Genesis and PC are excluded.

1) Playstation ( mainly because the jump from 2D to 3D was the biggest revolution ever happened in console gaming ( and in gaming in general ) and PS had some of my fav 3D games ever as exclusives )

2) Dreamcast ( the most underated console of all time , i had a blast with it again and again )

3) Playstation 2 ( nuff said )

I gave some love to playstation, still contains my absolute favorite lineup. I guess I'd give ps2 second place but only just.

No contest, the PS2 was a beast.

SNES without a doubt. Aw crap 5th gen forward, never mind......Gamecube then. Played the crap out of the thing.

I'm gonna say PS3 because at this moment in time it has my two of my favourite games of all time. Uncharted 2 and MGS4. Lets be honest, Last of Us is a PS4 game.

Ya know I always reflexively say PS2 but at this point it has to be X360 for me. I think I have played more good games, from a wider variety of devs, in a wider variety of genres, in a wider variety of ways than the PS2.

I don't give a crap if games are exclusive are not, I had no issue paying for the quality of Xbox Live, and as for hardware reliability my PS2 and 360 both broke once so that's a tie... yup I think X360 has leapfrogged PS2 for me!

@locopatho: I'm surprised people didn't complain about the last of us framerates back then. It was pretty unplayable I don't know how I was able to complete the game. It is arguably the best looking ps4 game at the moment and until uncharted 4 it will probably remain so.

So much fun in such a short amount of time.
