He's talking very vaguely about loyalty. He's moved out of the hood. The police have been in his house three times when you've showed up. The story for his mission was misleading. He's abandoned Sweet on the first opportunity.

Randomly cast a stone at MGS2 or MGS4. You'll find a good enough answer either way.
FFIX's end boss is pretty fucking stupid, but I'm not even sure if you can call that a twist.
In Max Payne 3, they did all that bullshit to bring Max over so he could be the fall guy. It's so astronomically stupid. I don't have the raging boner for Max Payne's story that others do, because that series is baby's first noir. But Sam Lake never gave me this bullshit, and I'm reminded that oh right, it's a fucking Rockstar. Of course the story is actually really stupid but some how treated like it's this immensely dark and mature thing.
Fucking gamers.

It was meant to be the antithesis of the game's core theme.
It also came right the **** out of no where, had no build up, and was superfluous given the boss that came before it was already the best the game could hope for in terms of a climactic final showdown. It shouldn't have existed.
@junky-trunk: "Best plot twist ever, fight your own boss to death in a field of flowers; Metal Gear Solid 3"
Fighting a chick was weak.
@ConanTheStoner: "Randomly cast a stone at MGS2"
That was odd MGS2 switching stories.
@uninspiredcup:
San Andreas story was stupid.
Star Child in Mass Effect 3.
You cannot beat Star Child for worst plot twist ever. Sorry @jg4xchamp you have some good entries but Mass Effect 3 exists mate.

I actually had a long ass post of shit like Pandora's Box's ultimate weapon being hope in and it being inside kratos, or the complete tone shift in Condemned 2, or the part where Tidus, Auron, Jecht are dreams in FFX (but it's Final Fantasy, so that's really cheating), that basically ended with fucking video games, but I got glitchspotted lol
Nier - You were actually killing innocents the entire game.
Instead of being this tragic revelation, it just comes off as a silly misunderstanding. My main problem is that the presentation of the twist is the lamest shit in the world. The dialogue is so exaggerated, its just laughable. The developers really for that shock value. "Stop killing the WOMEN and the CHILDREN you MONSTER!" **** off Nier. This is David Cage level of cheap emotions. Completely ruins the journey of the game. Turns everyone you might have liked into an idiot or crazy person.

Oh my god when they bring big boss back just to turn the light hearted likable radio crew into full on scumbags because you know Kojima just said "**** it, we'll just roll with this and call it a day".
That ending at least sort of was working when he was letting Solid Snake die, because at least that was the culmination of all those years of waiting, and playing through the metal gear games. BUT NOPE, we gotta do some 1's and zero's shit, and the game is taking itself immensely serious during all of it, so it's not even like a fun joke the way Senator Armstrong is. Worst story telling medium of all time.
Metal Gear Solid 4.
Take your pick. I mean really. The game is filled with some of the most needless, mind-boggingly stupid plot-twists that only serve to pander to the series' pathetic fanbase. Because apparently tying up loose ends in the most contrived way possible qualifies as good storytelling for them. Fucking figures.
Speaking of Japanese bullshit, if Halo 5 wasn't actually fun to play I would have assumed 343 was a Japanese developer with the fucking garbage story twist and writing in Halo 5.
what was the twist?

Just to put this out there, if Mass Effect 3 didn't exist, MGS4 would top my list. Sure, up until the final Act, I was a little face-deep in all the fan service and loving it, but that final Act and the finale just ruined everything. Including all the other games in the series prior.
I have literally not been able to return to them since. And my name is foxhound_fox for ****'s sake.

Remember when Chief left Cortana in Halo 2 back in 2004, and it was a big thing?
Three sequels and eleven years later she's still hanging around smh
narrative level: daytime soap opera

There was a time when Kojima and Bioware were suppose to be the premiers of storytelling in games. Now they one-two combo twist of royal storytelling stuff ups.

**** that, MGS2 and 3 are still great games, V is pretty good because the story got the **** out. There is no saving Bioware though, but some of us were ahead of the curve on saying these rpg devs weren't all that :]
Best plot twist ever, fight your own boss to death in a field of flowers; Metal Gear Solid 3
? How is that a plot twist? Eliminating the Boss is one of the mission goals you're given in the briefing.

Are you expecting more from an industry that is basically selling interactive summer blockbuster action movies? Even the games so many here wet their pants over when compared to great literary works are f**king ridiculous jokes.
Bioshock Infinite, the entire thing.
This, like it's not even in a good way ether
These two games take the cake.
MGS2. that crap was overdone with too many layers to "provide complexity" when it was shallow as fvck. What was there....like ten twist to the damn game? S3 meant solid snake simulation, then it didn't, then *gasp* it did again...or not. I loved the game though. LOL
ME3: Star child 'nuff said.
Bioshock Infinite, the entire thing.

I was looking for others that were going to say this, because I whole heartedly agree.. Especially due to the massive praise the game got for it's story..
"Gone Home" immediately comes to mind. The game has several decent qualities, I liked the sense of mystery at first and the attention to detail.
The end story, however....that plot twist at the end was very anti-climaxing for me. In a way I think that is what the devs wanted, misdirection....I just didn't enjoy it here because it was just not worthy I felt of the time I had put into it and was just expecting more.
The entire plot of Watch Dogs. Garbage with extra garbage sauce.
The premise is so stupid. This guy becomes a vigilante to get the guys that killed his niece when it was his fault she died in the first place. He then goes on a murdering spree killing and robbing 100s of innocent people ruining their lives in the process to get revenge. And in the end the villains were some handicapped guy and a 90 year old man. The old man even basically calls Aiden a douche before he dies. OMG this game fucking sucked.
Ubi didnt even have the balls to make the kid his daughter which would have made some semblence of sence.

Completely agree with this as well, Watch Dogs had such an awful story. The only character I could really stand in that story was Jordi Chin and he was woefully underused. Even the stupid DLC focused on T-Bone and he was only marginally more entertaining than Aiden.
I'm glad no one said Assassins Creed 3, as I really like that intro and it would be deeply disheartening if someone implied it was shit.
