At one point. MS even ran out of activation keys for it. It had to have sold a lot even though MS tend to be secretive about sales numbers.

The UI is also quite unique and flexible, be it multi-window, multimonitor, or both. It's also good for learning some aviation principles.

Weather and cloud customization is also top-notch. Nothing even comes close, be it other PC or next-gen console games.

There's even books for it concerning real-world training use.
