I ask this because the PS3 was mostly aimed @ 30fps and sometimes less... at 720p it's passable but still not great. I know from playing games on PC @ 1080P 30FPS makes the whole experience worse and I'd rather drop the resolution. When panning the camera around 30FPS starts to make you feel bad as you can see the image skipping across the screen, at lower resolutions it's much less notable. 60FPS feels a whole lot better. If the PS4 is 1080p then to me it would be a deal breaker if they sacrificed frame rate for higher textures and object polygon count. Will they just cover up poor frame rates with an unnatural blur filter? I hope not to me that's even worse. Don't even get me started on vsync, if they leave that off in most games then I will be sad. Do you think Sony and devs should let you set the game up how you like it, much like PC game video quality settings. Sacrifice graphical quality for better frame rates, I hope they do. Who would choose 30FPS over 60FPS @ 1080p with higher graphical quality?

Some games work at 30FPS like GTA4 while others do not, a la Sleeping Dogs.

i wonder if ps4 games will still suffer from framerate problems that plague so many of the ps3's library.

with the touchpad processor, move 2.0 and eyetoy 2.0 i'm worried that the system may not be able to dedicate enough resources to run the games smoothly. :(

I believe 60fps will be more prevalent with PS4 for sure.

Nothing to worry about. Devs have only praise for the PS4.

There is that trolling again. The only games with frame rate problems were the badly done multiplat ports.

Also what frame rate was their game demo's played at at the PS4 announcement conference. Obviously you can't tell from the video stream, would be great to know as they had live game play demos on their prototype (perhaps final spec) hardware. This is the sort of stuff they should have been talking about, not stupid video sharing and posting stuff on social network sites.

30-60 is fine , if its 60 and smooth texture good if its 30 and highly detail texture good to ,   it really does not bother me unless there is some serious lag  like there was with some of n64s cheaply made games

They will probably still aim for 30. This way they can add more things to the game or increase the visuals. The kills one footage looked like it was 30.

30FPS will be the standard as always. It's the frame-rate that allows for a cinematic-like presentation while giving developers more room for graphical fidelity than if the game was running at 60FPS.

1080p 30fps. some games will be 60fps. I don't think we'll see 60fps standard for a long time. Lots of developers rather push what they can do and stick with 30fps.

I imagine a great deal of them being 30 fps, especially early in the gen. maybe later we will get more 60 fps games. Who knows

30fps will be the norm again. People always make the mistake of thinking that frame rates are hardware dependent when they are actually developer dependent. There were games on the PS1 that ran at 60fps, there is no magical hardware spec that automatically makes games run at 60fps, it's purely down to the priorities of the developers. If they want a higher frame rate they will make graphical compromises to achieve it.

1080p 30 frames per sec for games attempting to push the most graphics ps4 can give

1080p 60 frames per sec for games at a decent level of visual quality but perfering a bit more performance

Killzone 3  :1080p 30 frames per sec

Next gen call of duty : 1080p 60 frames per sec

Battle Field 3 : 1080p 60 frames per sec at high graphic settings instead of very high graphic settings. If not they will have to lower to 1080p 30 frames per sec at very high graphic settings like the killzone game.     On pc a 7870 cant give 60 frames per sec at 1080p on very high graphic settings. So im pretty sure battlefield 3 will be 1080p high graphic settings 60 frames per sec.

It has to be either 30 or 60 FPS as most people have LCD's, and to sync the input to the output without dropping frames or drawing half frames it has to be at one of those 2 frame rates. Although I think most TV's also do 50FPS/50hz-100hz. That might be a good in between value if absolutely required.

PS4 will aim for 30fps for most games, some will be 60fps of course. Console games usually aim for 30fps, and I don't mind.

HDMI only supports 24, 30 and 60 refrash rate, so for smoothness they should aim on one of those

Some games will probably run at 60, but in most cases developers will probably opt for 1080p @ 30 fps rather than lowering the resolution because your average consumer has no idea what frame rate their games are running at.

It's interesting because Killzone: Shadow Fall is running at 30fps, but Digital Foundry has said Geurilla could easily make it 60fps if they wish.

My guess is 1080p 30fps standard with some exceptions.

60fps @ 1080p for racing and fighting and 30 fps for everything else

Every Halo last gen was 30fps and even hermits on here were playing that with no complaints, so I don't understand the sudden uproar of criticizm for KZSF now

They didn't say that, they said it could easily go above 30 if they uncapped it. That's not saying it could easily do 60. They keep it at 30 to stop it going up and down all the time making it too jarring to look at, going above 30 to say 45 and then back down to 30 again over and over doesn't look very good and it would start to make 30 seem choppy by comparison. It also means less screen tearing to keep it locked at 30 amd more stability in the image.

"Also note that of course there is nothing to stop devs targeting 60FPS if they so wish."

Yes it would be choppy going back in forth between 45 and 30fps so I'd prefer a lock. Though the quote doesn't EXACTLY say they could do 60fps easily. That doensn't mean they can't pull it off. It's a launch game with many more months to go and it's on new hardware. I don't think anyone should be suprised we don't have Day 1 60fps games.

I really don't think 1080p and 60 fps are going to be sustainable for long in AAA games. One or the other (more often framerate) is going to start being sacrificed in the name of effects/scale.

This. I'll wager framerate will get chopped down before 1080p does, mostly because 30 FPS is fine for console games. It's not like most people would notice the difference.

I think anyone would notice it. Less informed people just couldn't pin down what was different. Still, console gamers are happy with 30, so nobody will be in a hurry to raise standards.

People who have only ever played on consoles won't care, which is basically what I meant. Even then, I have a hard time noticing 60 to 30 FPS unless you put them back to back for me.

You can sell higher resolution a lot easier in a commercial and pictures than you can framerate. So 30 frames is where it's gonna be to maximize what they can do with everything else about the game visually.

Exactly, what's the point of going for 60fps if consumers don't even notice it? Only hardcore hermits and consolites will notice. Devs want that visual flair to their game than making it run at 60fps. The first impression is to the consumer is graphics, not fps.

30 FPS at 1080P mostly, with Call of Duty and others going 60 FPS.
