What are your top 5 RPGs of this gen?

With the exception of JRPG's, RPGs in general were kinda disappointing for me this gen. This gen didn't have its Skyrim in my opinion. Witcher 3 was supposed to be it, but it didn't do it for me. Combat was boring and I didn't care about the characters or story. I wasn't a fan of the series to begin with, though. But anyway..

Here are my top 5 RPGs of this gen. Let us know yours!

• Final Fantasy 7 Remake - this game did not disappointment. Sure, it has its 'padded' moments. But overall, Square really hit that right balance of nostalgia and new. Made me fall in love with the characters all of again. I even preordered my Play Arts Barrett figure haha.
• Dragon Quest 11 S - an old school JRPG done in modern times the right way. Loved the gameplay, the characters, and the overall charm. The game doesn't get bogged done with complicated systems, but its simplicity is what makes it good.
• Divinity Original Sin 2 - probably the best Western RPG this gen, but it's a tactics game. In fact, the best thing it does is the tactics lol. The actual story and the characters part, not so much. But overall, brilliant gameplay. Super smart and lots of options.
• Persona 5 - it's not my favorite Persona, that goes to Persona 4G, but this game excels in gameplay compared to the latter. I just wished I had liked the characters in this game or the story. It also had its moments where it dragged. I hope the next Persona can give us an all in one package; story, characters, and gameplay!
• Bloodborne - I don't really consider Souls games as RPGs in the strictest sense, but I guess technically they are role playing games. They're more role playing than they are action. Kind of like Skyrim or Witcher. Definitely one of the GOATs!

Honorable mentions: Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition (I'm only 10 hours in, but I love it. Might easily make the list when I'm done. The Outer Worlds was actually a pretty good game, though it felt like a budget Fallout lol. Nier Automata (I consider this more of an action game).

The only RPGs I ever liked are Deus Ex, Deus Ex HR and System shock 2. none of them belong to this gen.

Xenoblade chronicles X (under rated gem. hopefully it gets a switch port or maybe a port to its successor. It would be a shame to leave it on the wii u).

Xenoblade DE if that counts....but it is a remake of a last gen game so debatable (brilliant game though).

hmm....thinking about it i havent played a huge number of RPGs this gen. at least nothing that's really jumping out at me bar what i have listed above.

Cyberpunk is probably a safe bet to add to the list. I haven't played FF7R yet (getting that with the PS5).

Top five, I dunno, but Prey (2017) is definitely on that list. I am hoping CP2077 will go down as my favorite RPG of the gen.

Persona 4G? Just started but I'm loving it

- games on my to-do include Divinity OS, Disco Elysium, Pathfinder, Tyranny - those should all be in the running once I get around to them from everything I've seen. Dragon Age Inquisition was pretty good if you simply chose not to do the filler bullshit too - I think that game's underrated because people can't resist being completionists

I only really put any time into Skyrim and Diablo III, but I guess they were last gen too. I've mostly been playing mp fps games and haven't played RPGs this gen.

Can you believe that Persona 4 also has a dancing game, and a fighting game? Persona 4 Dancing All Night for Vita is actually pretty good lol. I also have Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, but it's more of a collectors thing for me. But if you want to play a modern Persona, gotta try Persona 5 Royal.

Haven't played Nioh 2 or Divinity 2, want to. Haven't played KH3 or FF7remake, mildly interested. Also haven't played Cosmic Star Heroine which is supposed to be legit, and Monster Hunter World. Beyond that, lousy genre. As enjoyable as something like The Witcher 3 is, the gameplay needs a lot of work.

And while I'd be down for the adventerous vibe of a lot of jrpgs and their anime ass vibe, the playing it part of Persona 5 suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks, and that's not any less wack when you get to other turn based jrpgs. Shallow games.
