have either one of you taken a look at 'high end' indie games? like for example maybe Green Hell or 7 days to die for example?

My favorite Indie games in the top 5 are:

Ive tried but i cant get into survival games, i just don't find them fun

also I should point out my question was not 'survial games' it was 'high end indie games' so kerbal space program for example is a high end indie game that is not a survial title, so is cities skylines, so is planet coaster

@tryit: your opinion of high end is subjective, stardew is better recieved than your grindy space simulator, it may have higher production value as far as graphics, but thats it, stardew is the better recieved game.

The Messenger seems really cool. Waiting til it gets to like $10

CDPR does have the "AAA" scale and quality, but by strictest definition, they're independent of any major publisher. And that really shows in their freedom of creative expression, as well as no motivation to milk (exploit) their fan base.

I get that most people immediately associate indie as small scale studio, producing games that reflect limited production resources, it really has nothing to do with the staff size or operating budget. Naturally, that's how most (if not all) indie developers start out. It ain't easy self funding, and even kick starters often don't raise the same capital as major firms. But there's nothing to stop them from growing from their small beginnings and retaining their independence along the way.

Point being it's the perception (or maybe the attitude) that's too limited and we should movie away from confining indie to just "primitive" games, those old school, retro 2D styles or really simplified 3D. Even when their operations are limited, their potential isn't, no matter how some gamers see them.

ohhh... how could I forget Darkest Dungeon... put that after FTL

Really hard to narrow it down to just 5, there's been so many superb indies this gen. Here's my list, but it's always changing:

1) Celeste.

2) Into the Breach.

3) Stardew Valley.

4) Gris.

5) Hyper Light Drifter.

This man is a fucking genuis.
