Nintendo 64 controller: yes, I said it. I like the Nintendo 64 controller. I can't imagine playing Mario 64 without it. Or Zelda, or GoldenEye. I loved the positioning of the controller and the use of the joystick and Z buttons are my all time favs. I remember learning Z targeting in OOT for the first time. Blew my mind. Or using the joystick to do my finisher in WWF No Mercy. I love this controller so much I bought the Switch one lol.

Switch Pro controller: the Switch Pro controller is fantastic. Has a great overall feel, the triggers are actually pretty good, and somehow Nintendo was able to get a 40 hour battery life on it. Kudos to you, Nintendo!

Backbone One: this is for mobile games, which I don't do a whole lot of but this thing feels fantastic when you use it. Actually makes mobile gaming tolerable.

Xbox Series X controller: ergonomically, this controller feels fantastic in your hands. And when the X1 came out back around 2013ish, these triggers were really cool. Nowadays, the controller feels outdated. it's still good, but not quite as good as my next guest..

DualSense: definitely one of the best controllers. I like that Sony tried to innovate and I think they largely succeeded. The haptic feedback and adaptive triggers feel great. As someone who is a manticore, often times I'll choose the PS5 version because I know developers are utilizing these features. Overall, the DualSense feels good in your hands and I don't feel tension like I do when I use the Elite controller. Battery life is a contentious issue, but from what I gather, I get 10 hours or so which is fine for me.

What about you, SW? What are your favorite game controllers of all time?

Haven't used any Elite controllers for longer than 5 minutes, so i can't take them into consideration. From the standard controllers, the DualSense is the best. The X controller is very close, tho. Really want the victrix pro bfg, but $250cad for a controller hurts my soul.

The Xbox Series is my favourite closely followed by the Xbox One and Switch Pro controller. They feel the most comfortable, have very nice button feel, and I like the analog stick positioning. Also like that I have options for the power source in the Xbox controllers. The Switch Pro Controller has a built in battery but it has great life in it.

Worse controller ever made are the nunchucks. Specially crafted for hands of a child.

DualSense and the 3bitdo SN30 Pro 2.

I am thinking of buying the 3bitdo ultimate controller soon and will give feedback on the quality soon if we ever do this topic again.

My heart says the Gamecube controller.

My brain says its a toss up between the Switch Pro & Xbox Series controller. They're both fantastic and are miles ahead of any PS controller.

Dualsense, Switch Pro, GameCube. N64 controller was horrible lol. Had to shoot with left trigger in goldeneye. I'm not left handed.

That Megadrive controller I had that was made out of see through plastic and had rapid fire toggles on all the buttons. I threw it at the wall because M-Bison kept cheating on hardest difficulty on SCE, and the controller shattered into pieces but still worked when i celetaped it all back together, and the celetape made it a bit squishy and even more comfortable in my hand.

The controller iv used more than any other is a Logitech Dual Sense controller that worked with everything for about 20 years and never failed me until the XBOX controller started being shoehorned into every game, then its probably the Steam controller and after that the XBOne controller. I never liked the PS controller ort the GC controller. Special mention to the Cheetah 125's i broke on Daley Thomsons Decathelon though.

Elite 2 has been my go-to standard controller for a while now. Still haven't tried the Edge, or the new Victrix.

Retro/classic, go with the Saturn pad every time.

Fightsticks, out the box, probably Qanba Obsidian. Not nearly as feature rich or build quality crazy as some of my other sticks. Still has everything I need though. It's really just the enclosure I prefer. Weight, dims, and wrist placement work great for me.

Mkb, always go with the same Corsair setup, don't remember their specific names.

-

None of it is "omg so amazing, best of the best, blah", it's all interchangeable to me.

They all feel fine. I guess the worst would be the joycons

Ive owned every concole besides the Gamecube.

Xbox Elite Series 2 is overall the best.

Runner up is the Dualsense because of its rumble tech.

  1. Xbox Series 2 Core Controller
  2. Atari 5200 Controller
  3. Switch Pro Controller
  4. Intellivision Controller
  5. Coleco Vision Controller

The DS5 is probably number 6. Sadly with the controller only having a 4 hour battery life it doesn’t make the top 5.

The pro controller feels solid and quite comfortable and an obvious upgrade over joy cons. The dualsense is an incredible piece. I just recently tried it for the first time and it is quite remarkable.

The SNES controller, because of the shoulder buttons, which were innovative at the time. I don't know if it necessarily invented shoulder buttons, but it perfected it. Also, I would say the Series X/S controller. It took what was good about the Xbox 360 controller and made it feel lighter.

Gamecube controller perfect shape and size. Dual sense could end up being the best when its all said and done if more games us it to the best has we have basically had no difference or improvement to rumble ever sense we first got it with N64 before ps5 and I though it was going to be just some gimmick on ps5 controller but its not after you play astro bots you can tell its not.

SNES, Duke (for CE; hands never cramp), the S (Duke replacement; hands can cramp, but better button placement), PS2 dualshock.

I don't like the 360 (thumbsticks and overall feel is too loose), ds4 (feels loose, and L1&R1 stick, and triggers suck), or the GameCube (everything sucks about it) controller.

This. It looked so unique and felt really comfortable. Still my favourite analog stick controller. The only flaw was the D-pad.
