Uncharted 4 vs Rise of the Tomb Raider

I haven't beaten Uncharted 4, but I can already tell you I like it more. It's just a more fun game to me. The characters, story, and gameplay, are that much better. Rise may have very good graphics and presentation, but it doesn't have the heart and soul of Uncharted 4. What are your thoughts on this, SW? I must know your thoughts.

They're both alright games from what I played so far. Fun games but neither deserves the acclaim they got at least for me.

I'll give the edge to Uncharted 4. Tomb Raider takes itself too seriously for its own good. Uncharted 4 exudes a certain charm in its design, characters and plot that Tomb Raider simply cannot match. In terms of gameplay it's a wash.

Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Uncharted is by far better. i cant stand UC either but anything in this world is better than tomb raider.

tomb raider reboot is so bad it make uncharted feel like Half life.

Both are great. I liked UC4 a bit more.

Rise of the tomb raider feels less like a movie.

I haven't played Uncharted 4 but I'm inclined to say ROTTR because... Lara Croft ^_^

But more seriously, between the two series, TR does the exploration and platforming so much better, and as for combat; newer games haz BOW. Bow and arrow is such a satisfying weapon.

at least uncharted have good shooting mechanics compare to tomb raider which has terrible combat.

In Uncharted you don't shot fellas in the head with a bow and arrow or sneak behind and strike them in the head with a piolet, actually, the least fun part of the weaponry are the guns. Both are very good games and as usual, this thread is created cuz cows are butthurt that TR is a timed len exclusive. It's only a few more months and then cows will be sayin : TR is AWESOME ! Lol, it's not longer a lem "exclusive" hahahahaaaa, etc, etc, then lems will be all bitter cuz TR is no longer exclusive and ..... well, this is SW.

From what I hear Tomb Raider still plays better so Ill take that.

I haven't played UC4, but RotTR was a definite step up from TReboot. It definitely looks like UC4 has it beat in certain areas, mind you.

@raugutcon: nobody even remotely said anything about the exclusivity nor the butthurt comments you're talking about. Unless we're on different threads or timeline since I don't see any comments regarding any of your issues.

Tomb Raider is really fun but I haven't played the mp. Uncharted's mp is fun though I haven't stopped.

Both are great games, the action in T.R. in my opinion is better overall cause you always got to be prepared for something big but the story in Uncharted excels beyond T.R.

Uncharted 4 and Tomb Raider has many things in common, core gameplay is much the same old cliché, climbing, jumping from ledge to ledge, shooting and running from explosions, all mixed with many exciting QTE action scenes like where you swim or fall out of a window, and there are some easy puzzles in UC4 which you can skip when solving them gets too hard, tbh I didn’t found any of games really challenging, also when it comes to battling enemies both games offer stealth and sneak attacks, you can choose the other way too and engage them if you’re in a hurry, I finished ROTR and now enjoying my time with UC4 , it’s a great game ….. and what makes it so great and far superior to its rival ROTR is the variety, every mission, every quest is different in UC4 and there’s more diversity in environments but in terms of gameplay it still falls behind ROTR. Lara is more skilled than Nathan, she can craft and modify her weapons/armor, improvise new gadgets and unlike Uncharted, ROTR has a semi-open world where you have this freedom to fast travel between its checkpoints and explore its mysteries, find some old artifacts and trade them for weapons or ammunition.

In regards to graphics being on PC gave a leverage to ROTR to boost its visuals, Uncharted 4 is beautiful game and its art design is breathtaking however I doubt PS4 limits would let you see its true glory, low frame rate ain’t the only problem here, who knows maybe NEO could fix that someday,

Story,characters,set pieces and general banter/cutscenes U4 is better,TR is better for gameplay.

U4 does pretty much everything better.

I have both and I'd pick UC4 out of those two, tough call but UC4 still pulls ahead

I may be in the minority on this board, but I will go with Tomb Raider. UC4 is boring. I still haven't been able to get up the interest to finish the game. I'm basing my opinion off of the SP parts of the games, since I really don't MP much anymore.

Haven't played UC4, but am looking forward to doing so. Naughty Dog are great devs, and I've enjoyed the series. That being said, I think ROTTR is a great game.

May be I am in honeymoon phase right now, lol.

I haven't played ROTR yet but from what I've seen UC4 looks more fun to play and seems better. They are both good games though and I plan to get ROTR soon.

We all knew you'd like it more before either were ever released. Funny because last year you made a thread about what game had the best story of the year and said you weren't a fan of the cut scene heavy type. But since we're talking Ps exclusive that isn't a problem huh?

I had Uncaharted 4 playthrough footage playing on my laptop while I was playing games yesterday and I was like on video 4 or somebody's playthrough and it seemed way too much cutscene, i don't mind it looking like a movie but please don't keep on going like one.

As good as Rise Of The Tomb Raider was, Uncharted 4 was still better in the end.

I just realize that Rise of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition on PS4 will run on Neo mode. Oh it's going to be good, really good.

Both are very good games, but I think the latter is overrated. They didn't evolve as much as I was hoping.

Uncharted 4 maybe saddled with tons of boring climbing and brain dead puzzles, but I'd prefer that stuff anyday over recent Tomb Raider games.

Uncharted has a clear focus on what it wants to do, modern Tomb Raider games are just a messy mish mash of modern video game tropes, but all done poorly.

it does. way more tools/flexibility in pretty much every gameplay department. Feels better as well.

What? I am talking about how the game plays. I am more in control of my character's movement, more in control in how I play and there is more gameplay that is offered in ROTR.

RoTR is a better game, but sadly has far less padding and hype.

All that being said.... I certainly would not score UC4 10/10.

Right now today, UC4 is a solid 8.5/10 for having an Ok story (could have been way better, seemed like the Teen rating was holding it back too), for having way too much climbing, and for having a crappy multiplayer (with way too many missing features and down right removing features and gameplay mechanism from UC3 and UC2.

See I'd say movement is much more an Uncharted thing. You tend to be staying still crafting things and being in cover more in RotTR.

Havent played Rise yet but I like the gunplay better from the reboot compared to uncharted 3 n 4
