Three Weeks Later, And DriveClub Still Doesn't Work Properly

On October 7, Sony released the racing game Driveclub for PlayStation 4. Today, October 28, the game still doesn't work as intended—and Sony still hasn't said a word about refunding the folks who paid $60 for it.

Driveclub's server problems have been well-documented. For the past three weeks, players have found themselves unable to access many of the racing game's features; though Driveclub does have an offline mode, its biggest selling points involve connecting with and racing against other players, fighting for ranks as you try to climb the game's various social leaderboards. Multiplayer is even in the name—Driveclub refers to the clubs you can form to play with other people.

So for 21 days now, the game has been essentially crippled.

Though Sony has been issuing regular updates to try to fix Driveclub's server issues, they're still not out of the woods yet. (Representatives for Sony did not respond when I asked them about potential refunds.)

Just this morning, I asked Fahey to log into the game and see what was up. Here's the message he got:

Amazingly enough, the game is still not working. No PS+ version either!

But that's okay, guys. Greatness Awaits™. Sometimes well past even the actual launch of games.

What I hate about PC gaming is that it always needs patched whereas console games just work straight out of the box ... wait WHAT? :P

@lostrib: nothing is wrong with it. I'm not talking just about this. It's obvious people here "criticize" sony a bit more than any other of the big 3. Idk if it's people's hatred of cows or what. I mean i could easily point out a few lems who put any cow fanatic to shame.

The game is a true flop in everyway a game can flop.Only on Playstation.

Works okay for me, the odd hiccup with challenges knocking in and out. Definitely not unplayable like the article suggests... I don't get all the hate for this game.

they delayed it for nearly a year. But once you have a fucked up code to fix it is one of the biggest task in the universe. Especially when that code consists of thousands of lines.

Sony has taken the concept of "Just Wait" too seriously.

Dude MS catches a lot of crap. Everything just comes in waves depending on what's going on in the news, game releases, etc

although, it's the X1. It's making an effort, but who really wants to beat on it at the moment.

It took almost a year to get to current state? A real shame, as I was really looking forward to this being a AAA level game.

@lawlessx: Works both ways dude, just because that guy in Kotaku had an error, it doesn't mean everyone is having the error. It suggests these problems apply to everyone when if you actually log in and join a multiplayer game you'll see lots of people are playing.

@MlauTheDaft: not at all. First gen in a long time where I'm not pc gaming and it has been great thus far. Wiiu is on fire xb1 is heating up, and ps4 has been wonderful. If i was still sticking to my old ways, i would be missing so much great shit.

Could you imagine what the uproar would be if this game was released on a competing platform?

This would have brought down SW. Can you imagine the fallout that would have happened if this would have been the case?

Why even bother putting out a free version now? They better just concentrate on fixing the one that oodles of people spent money on.

It reminds me of BF4. I played the campaign version just yesterday and it is still a buggy mess.

I'm glad that you're satisfied with your purchases :) The WiiU is actually looking quite appealing now, although I'd have never thought it a year ago.

However, specially with more games coming to PC (Valkyria Chronicles just now), and all the features PC has, a good gamign rig puts the xbone and the piss 4 to shame.

Works great here. My club already had 100+ members and kicking ass. What sucks is the broken Smash Bros network. Haven't been able to play one match online. Junk.
