THQ searched high and low, and found a license that will allow the publisher to bring something new and unique to the gaming scene: a post-apocalyptic FPS. Metro 2033 is in development for PC and Xbox 360 and based on the novel of the same name by Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky.

Ukrainian developer 4A Games' Metro 2033 is set in the subways of a ruined Moscow. You play Artyom, a young man who has never ventured outside of the Vault "Metro Station-City" to which he is loyal. His adventure takes him around the Metro system, home of other factions (some of which are hostile), and to the inhospitable above-ground world.

According to Amazon, a new English printing of the novel will be released in February. While we aren't certain that provides a time frame in which to expect THQ's version (currently slated for "2010"), it does mean that readers will be able to totally spoil the events of the game.

The game looks interesting.

Maybe not, but let's be honest. The 360 doesn't have very many FPS and gets very little FPS support from developers. So clearly, this announcement is HUGE news for 360 FPS fans desperate for more FPS.

I don't think it sounds so unique anymore after Fallout, Stalker and Borderlands if that's what they're after. Not that I have anything against post-apocalyptic settings. I'll keep an eye out for it but not expecting much tbh.

I agree completely. A breath of fresh air on an RPG and adventure laden console, bereft of such fantastic experiences as only FPSes can deliver!

you know what would be awesome? if they, like, had rpg elements, and some sort of system where you could pause the game and aim at specific areas of an enemy.... get this... IN THE MIDDLE OF COMBAT

It was decent, and while I preferred Fallout's sty.le, It's possible this game could be good. I'm just tired of the cliche setting.

Still, if this Metro 2033 from GSC Game World, then I will look at it a bit more. THQ puts me off, but The Devs are where it's at.

I thought it said the developer was "4A games". I never heard of 4A, but I do trust GSC.

Graphics look good art design surprised me, looks like the production quality is there and it might be a good to very good game. Unknown developer makes me kind of wary but their work looks quite impressive thus far, particularly for a debut trailer. I'll wait for more.

Most games that both you and I play are in "cliche settings", including the blockbusters on PS3 and 360.

THQ published S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and they've published other good games over the years.

And yes, many 4A'ers are from GSC Game World.

Maybe not, but let's be honest. The 360 doesn't have very many FPS and gets very little FPS support from developers. So clearly, this announcement is HUGE news for 360 FPS fans desperate for more FPS.

How is this huge news at all. This is such a blatant Fallout 3 rip-off it's not even funny. If I want a great single-player FPS next year I'll play Bioshock 2.

Coincidentally it seems like you haven't played a game from THQ in years either. Saints Row 2, Red Faction and UFC happened. All good games. Metro 2033 is highly reminiscent of Stalker, another good THQ game.

What's funny is that the first videos of this game are from 2006, about a year before the first videos of Fallout 3.

Post-apocalyptic games are hardly anything new, but Metro 2033 has kind of an interesting take on it (I read the book online). Knowing the source material and the staff of the developers, I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

I don't care if it's considered not-original or not.... I love post apocalyptic games/movies.... just because we have FO3, Borderlands & Stalker hardly means the industry is flooded with them.

Don't you mean STALKER rip off? I did not see ANYTHING that was somewhat related to Fallout 3.
