Own both a macbook with OS X snow leopard and a windows 7 desktop.

love both equally. i like to edit video/pictures on my mac for my side job, and use my PC to play games on and just every day home computing. i have no gripes about using either of them. both excellent platforms.

I kind of hate Macs. I'd love them a lot more if they offered a little more flexibility, were cheaper then their incredibly expensive prices, and were actually useful for gaming.

But like, they aren't. They are awesomely streamlined and convenient and hip, but... yeah.

The issue with a Mac is never the software. A user with a high enough IQ level can manage his work comfortably with any OS, be it Windows, Mac or 'Nix. Of course, you'll need Windows for gaming, cause Wine is not a very suitable alternative, but that's a different matter. The problem with a Mac is that it has the same hardware as any other PC these days, and is about twice the price. The overpricing factor is what generates a lot of the negativity towards Macs. Macs are quite solid, performance and reliability-wise. But they just are not worth the price.

but I reckon the Mac looks really nice and stylish. It's expensive and set me back $1300 but I like it.JasonDarksavior
$1300... Mind telling the specs? The point is, even though casual users who look for style over performance would like it, someone like a tech geek would never consider spending that much on style.

See what I mean? You pay $1300 and get only this much? MacBooks have good batteries, though. But again, that alone isn't worth the price, and the so called "stylishness" shouldn't ever be taken into consideration if you're serious about computers.

[QUOTE="JasonDarksavior"] Yeh, I know you can get much better hardware with the money but I just love the way it looks and the build quality is amazing. I've had plenty of laptops before but my Mac really stands out personally. I use laptop for browsing internet, school work and use it's on almost 24/7

Like I said, Macs are bought a lot for casual use. Usually by the crowd that want more style than performance. Your Mac "stands out" among that particular crowd because it has that external "style" and "build quality". Cause when you consider what's inside, it's outdated. Which is why computer enthusiasts usually stay away unless there's a specific need to use Mac OS.

Once Vista got updated it was fine.

I went from XP SP3 to Vista SP1 and found it to be a lot better.

It was a lot faster and had DX10+ support, I never got why people clung on to XP so badly... it's not that good at all.

Okay, let's look at it this way. Assuming you don't own all three consoles, did you choose your console based on outer looks?

[QUOTE="JasonDarksavior"] I own PS3 + 360 and chose my console based on the games it offers. However, I treat the computer has an everyday tool and I'm sure most people here do the same. You use it for school, work, porn, internet and for some gaming. I have my laptop on literally 24/7 and I look at extremely frequently. Of course I'll care what it looks like.

So you wouldn't want a PC that would boot up faster and load your programs faster and is more responsive under heavy load than a PC that looks better outwardly? Good for you, I guess. But like I said, casual use. I'm just looking at it from a computer enthusiast use. There are many people who use PCs extensively for work and rarely do gaming, but most that actually work with the PC more would want a PC that performs better, not a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo that looks outwardly better. Like you choose your console based on the games, a regular computer user chooses the computer based on its functionality.

Meh. I'm a tech geek, and specs matter. I'd take the ugly Alienware with the specs anyday. Same exact price and specs? Then maybe I'd care about how my "tool" looks. Differnent strokes and all.

The Mac looks pretty standard. What's so special about it?

LOL You picked a fully touched up advertising photo and use a random user pic for the Macs?

Btw, that Mac on the right is extremelt outdated from a few years back. The new ones look different.

But you don't have a new one, you have one from like 2008, right?

Let me find an Alienware from 2008.

It doesn't look any worse than the Mac, I think they look about the same actually.
