1.Unlockable characters in Fighting games - Jesus this pisses me off sooo much in games like Smash brothers or Street Fighter when your favorite characters require beating the story mode as other ones or stupidly random challenges like Smash Bros (play 10 hours to unlock X, play 50 hours to unlock Y) .

Hell for me to get Dan my favorite character in SF4 not only did I have to beat arcade as Ryu a character I dont like but I had to complete arcade with Sakura as well who was ALSO unlockable at that !!!

Random battles. I hate these so much. I can't stand any RPG that does this. Routine boss fights with one way to hurt them. This is something I despise. I lose to this kind of boss more than anything else in video games because there is one way to do any damage to them and you have to go through the same old cycle of attacks over and over again waiting for the chance to do some damage. And if you miss that chance? Oh well. Guess you just have to wait.

Respawning enemies.

I prefer clearing out an area and then advancing, not rushing to reach and invisible line that stops the respawning.

I also dislike regenerating health.

I wish there was more unlocking stuff these days... seems like what used to be unlockable is now a micro-transaction from PSN/Live/VC... When did they decide that alternate costumes for fighters were worth an extra buck or two?

You should see Turok's, read this from Gamespot's review: Another annoying issue is that the game doesn't know how to quit when it's ahead, especially when it comes to the many set-piece battles. Imagine battling a horde of giant scorpions or raptors, only to turn around and see another wave rush you. And as soon as you finish that wave, more often than not, a third wave will appear. The first wave was exhilarating, but by the third wave some frustration sets in. That reinforces the feeling that the designers are just padding the length of the game. It doesn't help that the checkpoint saves are few and far between, which means that if you screw up in the final wave, you usually have to restart at the beginning of the entire sequence.

In fighting games: cheap God-like Bosses (SNK, I'm looking at you)

In FPS: I agree with infinitere-spawning enemies.

In other: Sonic, lol.

Also, forced co-op with stupid AI partners. Co-op shouldn't be mandatory AT ALL. (Yes, RE5 this is for you)

sounds pretty bad, I thought about picking it up once, I was a big fan of the first 2 turok games, also Turok Evolution, but I was put off by the demo, it just seemed a lot more linear than the older ones

My advice is to not play it, it's made by a different developer, it's a reboot to the series and not a great one either.

I can think of many worse things in gaming. DLC becoming the norm, charging for LIVE, games costing $60 and being half as long, almost no originality in big-budget games, review scandals, fanboys, viral marketing.

-The "omg must-have multiplayer or it sucks" mindset of developers/gamers/critics. Dear god this is turning into such a huge problem.

-DLC. Some DLC is fine but DLC in which you have to pay to unlock content found on the disk is just stupid. If it's on the disk, we should have access to it at no further cost

-Short games. IE: Heavenly Sword

Respawning enemies. Nothing makes me more angry than to be shooting an endless stream of baddies until I get to a magical point, where sudddenly all my allies are around me shouting "We did it lol!". Its stupid, and removes all immersion. Also, implement an actual decent (frequent) checkpoint system AND a save anywhere function. Its not that hard to do both.

Call of Duty 3 is a perfect example of what NOT to do. This game is killing me a little inside everytime I play. (Veteran mode btw)

QTEs and overly used context sensitive actions, the latter mostly on PC tho since i understand it's sometimes a necessity on consoles.

Gameplay compromises, this gen with devs desperately trying to grow their target audiences it's become more common to try to mix several genres together, for e.g. action+rpg often resulting in a game that isn't really good in either area.

Dude, regenerating health is the best thing that happend for FPS's, whitout it you would just be worying about when you can find your next checkpoint or health pack. With regenerating health, you can consentrate on shoting the ennemy and enjoying the game, and it becomes less of a game of memorisation like the old shooters.

It dumbs the shooters down to a casual bore fest, taking away any reasonable challenge in replacement for accesibility. It is the WORST thing to happen to FPS. You want a good health system? Half Life 2s and STALKERs.

Its alright in some games but its becomming the standard. having to wait for healthpacks and such make you have to use stratagy in games rather then rush in take a few hits to get the kill with no worries. Also with this note in co-op being able to rez your partner by hugging them or respawns. halo 3 on legendary was a joke... just have 1 play snyper the other gunner, if the gunner dies run to a secure spot for the rez wash rinse repeat.

Turn based battles. I don't mind random encounters so much as long as they're not turn based. (FFVII Crisis Core)

FPS games. Developers need to give this genre a break, make some more original games, like what the last generation had. The PS2's exclusives were mostly non-shooters. Games like Dark Cloud, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, Bully, Jak and Daxter and Downhill Domination.

Lack of in-depth stories. Good storiesgive you more motivationto play. (Uncharted, MGS4 andCrisis Core)
