The total play time of every WoW player is 5.93 million years...scary?

Around the 6 min mark this is mentioned and as the talker says, around 6 million years ago is when the first human ancestors would have walked upright. I find this number just scary!

I use to play WoW, i don't anymore, i contributed to that number, and i'm not sure i feel good about that. Where do you stand?

EDIT - I may have titled this all wrong, as the actually talk is titled "Gaming can make a better world" and its worth watching. Anything on TED is worth watching, its the best website on the internet!

I contributed weeks, if not months to that number. I don't regret playing it (because it was a great game), but I'm glad I don't play anymore.

Something about the number of 5.93 million years. It just seems such a huge number for one game and something that has only been around for a few years. Now i think about it my play down was close to 150 days when i quit, maybe thats why i find it so scary!

Don't expect it to stop any time soon. WoW is a force to be reckoned with.

i have not played it in forever but i will be back when the next expansion comes out, i play for a bit max my lvl out play battlegrounds as a combat medic for a few weeks then leave it be for a year until a new expansion releases rinse and repeat.

i will never chase after gear or run instances over and over but as a game that i run around in and have a bit of fun exploring it's great.

I contributed over 3000 hours to that number.... I'm so glad I don't play anymore, though I'd be lying if I didnt admit Istill feel WoW's tentacles grasping at me from time to time, and a voice whispering to me.... "coooommme baaaaack"

You just know there's a dude in Blizzard's office who monitors the number of old players that return. I imagine him sitting in one of those evil rotating chairs, rubbing his hands together each time some one comes back.

Wow, that's a long time.

Now let's add up all the playtime from Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Halo 3, CoD, GeOW, Battlefield series, and Starcraft and let's see what we come up with. :twisted:

Wow that's an amazing number. Interesting to look at yes but I wouldn't say it's scary or even surprising. With the amount of people playing it worldwide, bots, farmers and the length of time it's been out we knew it'd be huge.

I must admit, I contributed a 30 minute trial period to that time :D

To think we could have cured cancer with that time...

Also keep in mind thats since 2004... so thats on average just under 200 hours per person for going on 6 years now. I have put more hours than that into several games in far less time.

Ignore the figure then, just watch the video, we are all gamers, it is relevant to you! We can save the world!?

WoW used to be incredibly good before the wrath expansion with PVP and arena, balance was actually one of their goals.

Now, all the interns are working on the game, making it progressively more unbalanced and terrible with every patch.

Scary? Considering the amount of people playing the game, it's not a surprise.

This just invites the ignorant to make up some conspiracy theories or "I lost everything in my life because of WoW" comments.

Let's put it this way : The Human race is thought to have around 2 million years...We now have played more WoW than our total existence.

Think about it.

TED owns TC, gonna watch now. And for the record I have about 150 days of playtime on WoW. Insane I know...

Thats not realy that much considering right now WoW has some 12 million active subscribers.

I've probably contributed over 100 days to that number

I'm sure I account for 3-4 months of that time... on 1 character..... add another month or two in for all the others at the very least.......
