This is grossly irresponsible. Not only should there be a push to sell PS5's online, these retailers (or Sony, whoever can make the call) need to make an effort to make a proper queue system for people to get consoles when they come in. People know there's only so many consoles that can be made, no need to start a super spreader event.

It happened because the retailer shop was one of the few shops in Japan that doesnt need a membership to purchase a PS5. The membership was to avoid reseller buying bulk.

I blame Sony for obviously not meeting demand, retailer for somehow making it available for offline purchase and the customers for being idiots.

Wait the WiiU is dominating PS5 sales data what is Sony doing in Japan? Sony is from Japan what is happening WiiU flopped all over the place and you on pace to sell way under that system. This is Trash.

Now Japanese dev's aren't gonna be interested to make ps5 games which is going to hurt the system even more all over the place.

PS5 is many things, but it is not anywhere close to portable. The Japanese gaming market is mostly about portables. If it's not portable, then they probably won't buy it. Then you have their favorite series either exclusive too or coming to Switch in the form of Pokémon and Monster Hunter.

It's not hard to figure out guys. Console gaming has been in severe decline there for quite a while now.

Nah. Japanese devs are now following Sony's lead by making their games appeal to the Western markets. Companies like Konami won't bother making games for Sony and will just continue to port a few games to the Switch while they mainly focus on their other endeavors.

Yeah but there losing traditional JRPG fans in the west now who like japanese styled games and Japanese game fans in the west, there losing those guys now and the japan fans in japan.

Final fantasy is no longer turn based etc there losing ppl in the west as well by desigining for the west.

Resident Evil seems to be going FPS for there mainline games.

This is not looking for fans of Japan and im not happy with this im fed up.

I was told many years ago that trends that started in Japan will eventually be followed in the West. Will the Western gaming market eventually become a portable/mobile market like Japan. If so, should console gamers living in the West be concerned IF it does happen one day?

@philamona: Not with everything continuing to be locked down. Handled gaming took off in Japan because of their lifestyles. Their homes have limited space because Japan is quite small in comparison to western countries among others and they have a large population. Most commutes are done via train or simply walking. There are significant differences. In time, it's possible the west could adopt dedicated portable gaming more but even Nintendo is going to be hurting with the expansion of smart phone gaming.

But like I said, with everything still being a dystopia of lockdowns... there's no reason for console and PC gaming to worry at this time.

No idea why people talk about it's crap sales in regards to games, nope, nothing to do with it. The famous dragon quest sold best on Nintendo out there, Japan loves tiny toys, tiny everything. The country hates home consoles, period.

Not only that, the AA console developers also moving towards mobile even with Switch existing cause its just not as profitable anymore. Just look at Mystwalker they have legendary talents that created FF but they currently working on a new big budget mobile RPG instead of on console.

I mean, there will still be traditional JRPG games. Like Octopath Traveler was one released this gen on the Switch by Square Enix. They'll just be released for the Switch instead of the PS5. Maybe on PC. I think Octopath Traveler is on PC if I remember correctly.

Early adopters exist in every region, and so do scalpers. The true state of PS5 in Japan can be explained in this video:
