From Consoles to games, to basic features, to features that are planned for later, for multiplayer games that are buggy on day one, to single player games that need a patch for frame rate.

This is Next Gen people, it wont get any better than this.

Are you ready for patches upon patches you'll be downloading every single week? Everytime you buy a game on launch?

At least they're patching it.

I find patching in a resolution comical though.

Sadly yeah...

Dead Rising 3 patch - fixes framerate.

Assassin's Creed 4 patch - upgrades to 1080p on PS4.

Standards just keeps going down.

are consoles getting too complicated and inconvenient now? up the the PS2/GC/Xbox it was pop in the disc and go. granted games still had bugs back then but rarely were they serious.

now it can be pop in the disc, update the OS (if you havent been on a while), install the game, patch the game and then go.

its very much in PC territory at the moment (in some cases like OS updates the PC is actually far more convenient since you dont have to leave your PC alone while it downloads and installs updates though the PS4, WIIu and X1 i think have improved on this aspect).

we even have safe mode now and i heard one of sonys suggestions for fixing borked PS4s was to do a format and reinstall. granted that still probably more automated than doing it on a PC but.....bit messy.

anyway yes, if you thought last gen was bad this is going to be in a whole different league when it comes to day 1 patches and the state of games on release.

ms has had pretty small patches since windows xp, like, ridiculously small.

definitely noticed the 360's impressively small and fast updates.

I'm glad the machines are sophisticated enough for them to make such drastic improvements post release.

yep.

and let's add BF4 which has been broken on every platform since launch. Didn't stop EA from forcing the product to the shelves to take everyone's money.

I get that they are under pressure and on limited time to have their products at launch, but it seems to me like this isnt about the launch pressure, cuz some of these games are PC games ported to PS4-X1 (ACC, COD, BF4) and they even end up being buggy on the PC too.

As platforms and games become larger and more complicated, eventually they will encounter the same traits PC has endured. It's a necessary step of evolution; PC is simply much farther down the road than previous generations of consoles.

Only a toy gets to remain simple.

Because they CAN patch them

remember the days when a game launched and there were huge bugs and those bugs stayed in the game forever? I geuss there can be an argument for publishers rushing games out faster and in a less stable or polished format too, that's what happened to BF4 anyway

The days of plug and play consoles are gone

@Ginosaji: IRC the first console game to feature a downloadable patch was Unreal Championship back in 2002 on Xbox.

That's too annoying .... developers are becoming more and more dependent on those, they dun bother finishing their games anymore !!!

What is even more annoying that systems are missing some basic stuff that were available in the last gen. like media servers and MP3 support !!! WTF, Sony !!

It sucks this is something i miss from the PS2 days, companies were force to really test those games to ensure they worked right, sure they could hardly evolve with time, but now since online is there games are been ship even on uncomplete form which is a joke.

Better that there be patches than none at all.

First was WiiU and now PS4, and next Xbox One.

The days that all you needed was a console is no more.
