The Average XBox/Playstation gamer hates indies (why?)

The average xbox and playstation gamer doesn't like or respect indies.

Its mainly old school CORE gamers who have been gaming since they were babies who respect indies and tip their hat to them. They aren't niche gamers they play good games anywhere and everywhere these people are the true gamers.

They've been gaming and playing games that are as good as indies forever and they know a great game when they see them and play them.

These same people respect nintendo and 3DS and games lke that and disrespect crap games on iphone/mobile/android

Indies are great and should be played and respected and ur seeing true gamers say that looks good to me and it doesn't have to be a graphics king or some deep ass story

sure some of indies don't have depth of old classics like FF4/FF6 or even gameplay kings like link to the past.

but they are still fantastic and feel great to play and i can respect the sexyness of the indies and they just play good and are fun what more can u ask from a game

A gamer plays games, period. Some are enthusiasts like many here. Others are casual. It doesn't make them less than or mean they deserve any less respect. This truly was the stupidest thing I have read in my 9 years on SW. Congrats.

Indies used to refer to game developers who were without a publisher, pure and simple. The quality of the game had nothing to do with it. Whoever bastardized the term ought to be shot.

I dunno. In a way you are right. There has been Nintendian persecution for years now. Never mind that both consoles have made 10/10 games that have defined their genre. The broadest brush strokes are used to define people who like Nintendo systems. Often laced with vulgarity and the worst insinuations too.

Eventually gamers as the breed we know now will die out and everyone will know the persecution Nintendo fans have known for years. Mobile gamers will look at us like we're the outsiders again, just like how most gamers here look upon Nintendo fans. And I say its our just desserts.

People should enjoy and play whatever games suit them. It's supposed to be about having fun after all. I've been playing games on nearly every platform for around 23 years now and I find a lot of indie games terrible. Some are good for a short distraction and some are fantastic but a lot of them just aren't very good IMO. Deal with it.

I don't like Indies they don't appeal to me.

I ruv Blinded Forester game! Not mention Ryse luver and AAAA casuals anymore. Hot Lines Orlando 2 not casual. I heart indies made independent developers onlyz!

won't say that i hate em but i do dislike them. this 'pixelated artstyle' most of them have is not something i enjoy seeing on a screen bigger than what you'd get on a handheld. they're also very simplistic and short, i don't like short games.

Depends on the game, not all Indies are created equal.

There are 8bit 2d pong level indies and then there are 3d and 2.5d indies with real work put into them like Rime and Ori that are really worth a look at, so there should be some separation between the scale of the indie we are talking about before we can really even examine if your first assumption is accurate.

I hate indies that are essentially cheap cash grabs with no effort put into them to make a buck. I appreciate any game that has work put into it, is developed for quality and is fun.

It is a mess I agree but I actually agree with a few points he makes: the younger audience today does seem to be unwilling to give games a chance if they don't have exceptionally bloated budgets -- as we have already seen, these AAA huge budgets aren't really sustainable, but I do appreciate it's what the average gamer has grown accustomed to.

not that i hate on indies but i think what they get praised for is a bit odd. All you hear are indies are innovating, all i see are melding of already existing elements and i dont see that as innovating at all. ill give a couple of examples

BRAID : 2d platformer with puzzles & prince of persia rewind function. Is it innovative because it introduced rewind function to 2d platforming/puzzle game or is it just a good mechanic to switch up the 2d puzzle genre?

journey : a 3d adventure game with platforming elements with a minimalist approach to story that brings out a lot of emotion. Is it innovative in how it tells the story or is it just a well crafted game that got a lot of people emotional

i can keep going on about other games but my point is that i dont think most indies are innovative. I think they execute their games well for their budget and they play on peoples nostalgia (2d platforming, adventure games, puzzle games, or challenging games are anything new)

its just my opinion.
