Tears of the Kingdom or Tears of the Kingdom? Nintendo weighs in!

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was named on screen during the latest Nintendo Direct - but many fans still had questions.

Namely, was that "tears" as in crying? Or "tears" as in something being torn up?

It's a subject we debated this week during our most recent Newscast - above - as both meanings would make sense in the context of Zelda's story.

But only one way is actually correct, and Nintendo has now confirmed to Eurogamer... it is tears as in crying.

This seemed the most likely explanation - as the series' Sheikah symbol is that of an eye with a teardrop. Seven teardrop-shaped items appeared in the mural at the start of this week's new trailer - perhaps items players will have to collect. Finally, in Zelda: Skyward Sword, players were asked to gather Sacred Tears in each realm.

You can now rest easy SW knowing that it’s Tears of the Kingdom 😢. Anyone else wondered what it was when it was announced?

Apparently, Nintendo didn't want to upset the Brits because of the timing of this reveal and the Direct. I still don't know of that's true.

I originally thought the title was pronounced Tears of the Cows.

Its tears as in crying after you see it running in 13fps while being in a forest and have more than 2 enemies on screen.

hmm theres going to be alot of tears shed if the game don't live up to gamers expectations.

The only bad Zelda game that I think Nintendo ever made was The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link on the NES. The rest have been good to excellent with the majority in the excellent category.
