Meh. I'm pretty much already on Reddit, though somewhat accidentally. 42,500 Karma and counting. I think I'll be alright if this place goes under.

I pick my subs very, very carefully, though. I know Reddit's reputation. Aside from that one time I got myself into an argument after I off-handedly mentioned that I'm "instinctively libertarian-minded," my experience has been pretty positive.

Unrelated, just randomly looking at shit, super impressive to me the engaging visuals Japanese developers can make from almost nothing.

They took this beautiful animated clip from 80's anime Gunbuster and put it on what looks like a PSP/mobile game while still keeping all the sense of fluid action and general intent in tact with almost 0 animation, or at the most, super limited.

Le gamers tend to focus on high end hardware and shit like mocap wowowow when doing something from nothing (or extreme limitation) is itself a real skill.

dav said gamefaqs also just closed their political sub. both owned by fandom. politics on an anonymous user based forum with no accountability in this day and age is a breeding ground for bigotry which they probably just want to distance themselves from.

more controversy means more effort to police, more notoriety, less advertising money. it was said in the bug discussion thread that trans talk mightve been the nail in the coffin as though it had been recently discussed. fandom have previously made moves to protect lgbtq users across their sites.

plus cant imagine these forums costs much to run. volunteer mods. minimal traffic. no technical improvements for years so likely no active gs dedicated dev team to pay. likelihood is what little it costs is being propped up by gamespot.com's advertising money and it probably does ok from that. gs still does pretty respectable monthly traffic, certainly compared to their rivals barring ign, my guess is all the work goes into the main site and the forums are in maintenance mode (i.e. still up but not actively worked on) and have been for a long time.

You're prob right. Every time anything happens on Gamespot get the typical "you've killed the forum!". It seems specifically related to something (and I'm guessing it is some trans type post) that irked the staff than a wide systematic shuffle.

Me personally, only thing missing was an active feed of the Ukraine war, the potential WW3 thing with nukes the size of whales that could like, end the world. Which weirdly, almost all of politics ignored lol

Think the last thing saw him in was the reboot of Kickboxer 1/2 where instead of the main character they made him Micky.

Although those were straight to video movies, they were better action movies than most of the stuff see in cinema.

Straight to video stuff kinda has a bad rep, and probably deserved, alot of the early 2000's stuff was trash. But watch Scott Adkins stuff for example and its miles better than the action scenes typically getting in Western cinema now.

JCVD is different from anything he's done. Totally unique. Little depressing, but so, so good. And honest. Definitely check it.

Back in the 90s somewhere he went to a party where Steven Seagal was, all coked up wanting to fight him because he was sick of hearing dude talk shit. Seagal didn't want any of that shit, took off. Jean Claude followed all over town trying to get him to fight.

He was an actual fighter (and champ) before becoming a stunt guy, extra and then star. He'd demolish Seagal.

Though Seagal's after story would probably be the greatest piece of fantastical literature since Frank Herbert's Dune.

Dude was/is definitely a badass. No argument there. Seagal recognized that pretty quick. Should never have opened his mouth to begin with, but you know these star types. Talk shit and not worry about consequences.

@nod_calypse: Scott Adkins is basically a modern day Van Damme. Very similar background, including stunt stuff. And he is in some high profile stuff, probably his biggest playing racist Guile in IP Man 4, but most of his stuff is straight to video is awesome.

Rather watch this like, actual people who know how to fight, doing stuff that takes skill than fucking, MCU slop of PS5 characters flying around.

Noticed Doom 64 has alot more gauntlet "Dead Simple" style maps interspersed alongside the more explorative complex maps. Including a remake "Even Simpler". It's nice, not overdone where it becomes repetitive. Pop up 3-4 times, break things up, bye.

Looks like Blizzard are trying to shift the conversation, probably in the wake of nuking the entire justification for Overwatch 2 to exist (i.e. the PvE).

Interestingly, according to this blog, it seems the PvE was intended to be a stepping stone towards finally making Titan; the MMO that was cancelled and became Overwatch 1.

30 years late saying this but Vagrant Story looks very good. Extremely good. They worked black magic with that PS1 tech.

Was expecting some "bang buttons" jrpg but actually having some trouble wrapping my head around the mechanics. Not that they are super complex, just weird.

Starship Troopers Extermination was pretty entertaining. Spent about an hour last night in a couple matches. Game's a little rough on the edges (early release game though) but it was fun to play. Would you like to know more?
