Anyway, SC will be divided into Squadron 42 and "Star Citizen" on Feb 14th.

SQ42 will, most likely, cost 60$ and act has a "pre-order" for the game.

Has for funding and donations, i imagine it'll remain the same for the PU due to it's mmo nature.

Ofcourse that's just a an idea.

Current backers obviosuly get it all anyway.

So, if you're remotelly interested in both SQ42 and SC, get a starter package now while you can.

Oh, and a new landing zone previewed.

He spoke about alot of interesting things including what happened with star marine..again.

I knew that Squadron 42 and SC were going to be separate experiences, but it was always my understanding that we would have a consolidated end product once development was finished without any consideration for being a backer.....or does this having something to do with S42's episodic format?

What is the significance of me pre-ordering the package in February as opposed to simply buying the game when it's released? It's not as though they're going to run out of digital copies.

Got in for $30 in the original Kickstarter way back in November 2012. Never spent another dime on it since. Already have several hanger additions and ships unlocked, because of their meeting funding goals. Looks like I made out like a bandit. Sometimes it pays to take a chance on a Kickstarter, guys. Not every time, but sometimes.

Do believe that was the original plan. I think the change has been brought about by the prolonged dev of the MMO side, so the consolidation at the end of dev has been removed, 2 games for the price of one will become 2 games for the price of 2 games, but you also won't be required to buy both.

I am an original backer and golden ticket holder so I am good.

I simply choose it as one of the three games of AMD Never Settle Gold. I just want my free game already.

This was inevitable, Squadron 42 and Star Citizen PU are completely different from the initial crowd funding campaign. My Golden Ticket emblem will look nice on my ships though. Hope they make it look like a bar of chocolate ;)

in 2016 it's impossible to make people happy, most major games that have come out recently have had some sort of backlash.

hopefully not though, the potential is massive.

That's not to mention the 1.18 million+ people who have already bought it are going to be very disappointed that the game, which many of them are already enjoying, is a complete failure.

Yes, with that pledge package you will get both Squadron 42 and the Star Citizen persistent universe. With the added bonus of knowing that you don't need to spend anymore money on the game the get anything else, including all the ship being sold to fund development.

@thepclovingguy: yeah, that package will let you download SQ42 when it's finished, and you can play everything else too, liek access the alpha if you want.

the alpha is already a lot more fun than a lot of stuff coming out, and CIG is fully transparent

yup. You can access the alpha and play the entire mmo part, aswell has sq42 when it releases latter this year.

Soooooo.....There will never be a time that the entire Star Citizen experience will be sold as a single product? That bugs the shit out of me.

I don't mind paying an amount of money proportional to the scope of the game, but splitting the game into two different products is confusing. I never liked that about the StarCraft format and I'm not gonna like it here.

If its all the same game and you can go to dog fighter and land seamlessly on a beach resort why is it being split in two? Disc swap? I thought it was all connected.

They are making two games. An MMO (Star Citizen), and a long singleplayer campaign (Squadron 42) that is the successor to Wing Commander. You can import your Squadron 42 save to Star Citizen and get some benefits like military permits.

People who funded the project so far go both for less than the price of one.

This is my question as well. Is Squadron 42 not going to be a large open universe? I don't seem to understand the logic in separating it into 2 games or why they would do it other than to try to make more money. Can someone elaborate on this?

SQ42 never was an open universe, it's a series of scripted singleplayer missions with some varying choices to make, and it's military based. You'll be flying fighters for the UEE.

Star Citizen is the open MMO world with guilds, trading, hunting, exploring, etc

@Pariah-: Well, if you grab it before the 14 Feb, you'll get everything in one package, after that there will probably be a combo pack that has both a bit cheaper than if you bought them seperately. But that'll be more expensive than it is now. Not sure how they'll be handling the SQ42 episodes after that. Though I may join you on the "It pisses me off" Wagon if they do something silly there.

It's a good decision to sell both games separately. Otherwise it'll be like selling World of Warcraft and Warcraft 3 together in one package just for 60 bucks. Both are full fledged games and should be sold separately. Can't wait for Squadron 42.

Since no one seems to mention it I'll be that guy and give everyone a heads up.

There is currently a free fly going on. Meaning you can try the game out for free if you make/have an account. If you do, just download the launcher and install the game. You'll have access to 3 ships that you can fly (you can earn REC in Arena Commander to rent other ships if you want).

Apparently this free fly only lasts until February 1st so it's best not to wait if you want to check it out.
