This generation the differences between the graphical capabilities of the 360 and PS3 are negligible. So my question is why don't people realize that instead of putting a trojen horse into peoples homes in the form of the Blue Ray format, Sony could have used the extra 200-300 dollers that the Blue Ray drive costs to make on better graphical components that would have blown the 360 out of the water? Imo that would have made the PS3 actually worth 600.

I don't think a blue-ray drive actually cost the manufacture that much more, The biggest differences between dvd and blue-ray is the disc's not the drive. The processor is probably really expensive

Regardless of you opinion, the PS3 is technically the best deal out of all 3 of the consoles. That should be obvious. If it's not worth $600.00 to you and you have something against value, fine, but there are those who know it's a good deal.

So far, neither gamers nor Sony are benefiting from the PS3.

or they could have left it as is and lobbed 200 off the price :P. nah seriously, its a big gamble on sonys part. if bluray succeeds then sony will be rollling in the money. PS3 sales will also increase quite alot since it is a cheap blu ray player as well as a games console (sorry sony....multimedia center and super computer). however if bluray goes south then sony are going to have a very hard time justifying the extra cost for redundant functionality. Its a huge risk. were they thinking of gamers when making PS3? imho it was a priority but not a top priority. sonys other divisions also have alot of vested interest in the PS3. Sony want the Cell in servers and workstations (and HD tellys i think). and of course they want bluray as the HD movie standard. are other companies doing the same thing....of course. MS are using the 360 to try and sell media center PCs and vise versa. there also using the live service to try and get more people to buy vista. there hardware could be considered more games focused but there software certainly couldnt be. Nintendo arent too bad now but they were really bad back in the day. they stuck with carts for the N64 so that they could charge devs more for production. licencing was also really bad and the memory constraints for those carts was criminal. At the mo i cant think of anything there doing at the cost of the gamer. i suppose one could accuse them of using non gaming features (such as the news and weather channel) to sell wiis but nintendo dont directly profit from those services. im sure theres something sinister there though :P

Sony has basically chosen to win the format war by sacrificing the console war.

the ps3 was not intended as a game machine as it's paramount consideration, per Kuturagi...

it's not meant to be good for anyone but sony.....
