Sony no Fallout 4/Skyrim mods on PS4!

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes.

That's really unfortunate news, as PS4 owners do not get to experience the awesomeness of some of these mods.

Especially after reading that now certain titles may cost money for patch upgrades for the 4K HDR...lol. Poor cows...

So they want to compete with PC but they are putting limits on some of the best stuff from PC gaming? Weird... still not so weird considering that most console gamers don't care about mods. But then again PS was the one promoting all this do-it-yourself games like LBP.

That's pretty pathetic. I wonder what the logic behind this is? Fear of backdoors that could facilitate piracy or something? I just don't see it.

While they're a nice addition, to an extent, unless you're on PC you'll only get worthless stuff. Mods that actually make the game play better? PC only. Heck, mods are what saved Skyrim on PC. Vanilla Skyrim is pretty crappy as a game. Modded Skyrim? 10/10.

So even with the more powerful PS4 Pro around the corner, they still don't want to do it?! Is it because they can't or don't want to?! Doesn't make sense. Might as well call it PS4 Probe, since they're sticking it to their fans by not giving them as many options as competitors.

Is it 2gb in total or 2gb per mod? I know legacy of dragonborn alone is over 2gb(not that it would work w/o skse anyway)

Still, its a pretty anti consumer move. Sure, the mods available officially through Bethesda are more restricted that what you'll find on something like Nexus but they can still improve the game a lot and add tons of neat features and content. Im still playing through fallout 4 on PC mostly using Bethesda's mod catalog and its made the experience way better. Its beneficial to gamers for console manufacturers to at least offer some sort of modding and its awesome that MS is at least open to the idea because now maybe other games will be able to offer mods in the future and that can only be a good thing.

@mems_1224: I mean, yeah sure, dick move but it's not like this turns Fallout 4 on consoles into a different game like it does on PC (not necessarily Fallout 4, but previous Bethesda games in particular).

Disagree. I didn't care much for the base game. too minecrafty and collecting stuff. With mods, I enjoyed playing through the game. Was able to level up faster instead of grinding, and have access to all materials I need to build stuf to complete missions easily without searching and managing inventory. turned it from a 100 hour borefest with 99% of it being boring downtime, to a 20 hours game I had a blast with. w/o mods FO4 was a 7 for me, with mods it's a 9

Well. I normally cant stand Xbox but I am going to be honest here. This really pisses me off. I LOVE Skyrim and was planning on picking it up for PS4 as I like to relax on my couch and play games. I also just ordered a New 17" Predator laptop that can probably run Skyrim at Ultra settings easy. But as stated with a game that long I would rather chill in on the couch with my 120" PTAE8000.

Question for all of you. Can I plug a laptop into the back of my reciever and have it run through my projector. I am a newb to computer gaming.

To patch games it costs third party devs money. Sony aint paying for patches. Sony was vague about how many developers would even want to do this. Sony said a few.

What makes this situation a little different is the response from Bethesda, you can basically read their disappointment between the lines and they are almost directly accusing Sony so they don't take the flak for it. Anyways, I dont care much for this issue I've not even tried mods on XOne but some people could be disappointed. No big deal for me honestly.

I wouldn't be a surprise if there's a fallout between Bethesda and Sony, and MS will reap the rewards. Anyway I did a quick YouTube search on Xbox One Fallout 4 mods and wow they're freaking amazing. They're like cheat codes but better. Mods are like game shark game genie but better. It really really really suck PlayStation only owners can't experience how awesome mods are because Sony isn't allowing it. Xbox just really offers more options in the end. I hope Sony change their minds when the Pro comes out.

I love Sony making decisions for me. They know I don't want the option of mod support in Fallout 4 or the option to subscribe to EA Access. They know what's best for me and that PS Now and $15 PS2 ports are great values. Screw backwards compatibility. Paying out the ass to stream PS3 rentals is where its at.

Thats disappointing but im switching to PC for good so it doesnt affect me too much. Sony needs to get it together though
