So they have confirmed to be working on it, but won't comment any further at this time. Does that mean that they will be charging for this, like how PS (not) Now (not ever is)?
I mean Sony have a massive console lead, and don't need to do this for free. They can charge for it and they will get away with it.
Now you get the joy of rebuying old games you already own. Sony always looking out for gamers.
Better than not having the option at all.

This meng is right. Now PS4 will finally have games.
Will never be disc based. They wont make money off people using their 14 year old ps2 discs or buying them used. Will be psn milkage.
It's been apparent Sony's been working on this since shortly after the PS4 launched. My guess was they wanted to announce it at PSX but the Star Wars videos gave it away.
I don't know why anyone would listen to the trolls telling you it won't be disc based. Only situation I'd see that happening is if the emulator has to be heavily tailored for each title, and we have no reason to assume such. Guess we'll see when the official reveal happens, but that's my bet. The big questions to me are PSX disc based support (as the ps4 doesn't currently read CDs) , will games have options for upscaling/ect., and when they intend to roll it out.
I'm happy that it's going to come out for those who have been wanting the feature. I've got a PS2 still hooked up, and a launch PS3 so this really doesn't move the needle too much for me. Never even use either of those anymore as the old backlog shames me out of revisiting many games.

There may be some trolling going on, but it's not surprising people expect this to just be psn classics. And if Ps2 emulation won't only be disc based, but run games in higher resolutions and framerates (besides frame locked games)? Kinda seems too good to be true. But it would be sooo amazing if it was like that. Hell even if it just runs games as they were on Ps2, that'd be great. These companies are trying to nickel and diming us at every turn now, so I will remain a bit skeptical.
As for ps1 emulation, well that'd be cool but we have the ps3 for that. No reason why they couldn't do it on Ps4 too though.
@Chozofication:
All good points. To me there's little chance they'd opt to hold back disc based emulation simply because they're already delivering this in MS's shadow. MS already has BC titles working, digitally and disc based, and for free. Seems like an obvious PR nightmare to avoid. They'll still make good money on digitally released ps2 classics sold to younger gamers and those who have shed their old collections.
Good news for you guys that don't emulate on PC I guess.
This definitely closes the gap between Xbox One & PS4 as far as Backwards Compatibility goes. Although, it's not confirmed how they will handle it yet. (Disk based, or rebuy/download). At least you PS4 fanboys know it's actually coming now. Kudos to Sony for being competitive early.
There's a few old games that i'd play from last gen on a new console but doubt I'd be bothered to play any console games from that far back, too much newer stuff to play.
if it's disc based I'll get a ps4 pronto; years later and I still haven't finished that library......
Same, I still have a couple PS2 games I havent even opened.
Though knowing Sony we will have to buy our games again from the online store. Sorry Sony but Im not buying my 50 PS2 games over again, not that they will be all re-released anyway.
Eh, nice to have for capping footage but w/o trophies it means very little to me.
You play games for trophies?

The Star Wars games featured by Digital Foundry seemed to have Trophy Support. I doubt this will be the case for all games though.
Dark Cloud 2 please!
THIS!
I know that the PS2 games that I would still want to play would never be put up to be resold on a digital store, so I only care about this if it is disc based, which I doubt it will be.
But if it is disc based and I can play Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain and Timesplitters: Future Perfect on my PS4 then this is awesome news!
They are desperate. Now cows can add PS2 games to the thousands of PS4 games that no one wants to play.
...
"I mean Sony have a massive console lead, and don't need to do this for free. They can charge for it and they will get away with it."
Sort of does away with the whole "For Gamers, By Gamers" mantra though, doesn't it?
SONY once AGAIN giving GAMERS what they WANT.
By GAMERS for GAMERS
The SONY way of current gen 8 console leader.
The "SONY WAY" is just parroting the competition at a much later date.
Just look at the PS4, it's an Xbox 360 with a new GPU.
I hope it work with disc games...........this it will be awesome. If it is only from PSN then....no thanks.I will not repurchase my PS2 games again.
Aye, my sentiments exactly. Needs to work with discs for me to care.

Yup me too. Would be sick playing my disc games at 60fps and upscaled res.
