Is this right? Well according to Sony, they have only sold 41 Million PS3s.

And MS ? :DGeneralShowzerSupposedly Microsoft only Releases SOL Numbers, but who knows. I am just going by what was stated! :P

Just warning you here, I made a thread similar to this two years ago and I was modded for flame-baiting or whatever. Eh I expect usual System war discussion, though I do not Condone Trolls, or other meanies in this Forum.:PI ask, what is this thread aiming to achieve ?
megaspiderweb09
Aiming to achieve what all the other threads that deal with Sales. SO does this mean that PS3 is actually Farther behind Microsoft than orignally thought? What does it mean by the numbers thought to be correct for SOny before?
If this isn't connected to System Wars, i don't know what is.I ask, what is this thread aiming to achieve ?

You mean the article claims. Not Sony. It's obvious the author hasn't seen Sony's latest figures released last week.
EDIT: I still see nothing in that article that says Sony says they sold 41m.
http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps3_sale_e.html
according to this Sony have shipped 47.9 million units, and that doesn't include q4 of 2010.
The article is going by the Papers submitted by Sony to Court, go ahead and read those. The site is stating what sony has claimed. You mean the article claims. Not Sony. It's obvious the author hasn't seen Sony's latest figures released last week.

I thought the companies only ever announce shipped units? It makes sense for it to be sell-through. Shipped units stand at around 48 million IIRC.
Dunno what 360's sell-through numbers are.

Yep. They do. Hence why I don't know the 360's sell-through numbers.
Dunno why this makes thread-worthy news. It's kinda obvious that sell-through numbers would be less than shipped numbers :P

I thought the companies only ever announce shipped units? From what I have Heard(could mean anything) that MS & Nintendo do sold, while Sony does shipped. Does it really matter? In SW it sure does, but really how can we truly know? All I know is what Sony is now claiming(ostb).Sony have shipped at least 48 million PS3s, MS have shipped at least 50. Sony probably have only actually sold 41 million though MS have probably sold around 43. I don't know why Lems play sales so much, all it will do is lead to ownage when PS3 inevitably overtakes 360.
And the Wii has sold more than 85 million!
I didn't know it was that much ahead of the 360 and the PS3. But still, if the PS3 only sold 41 million units.. it is quite behind the 360.

I looked through both PDF documents linked there, and found nothing. :?
Link to the PDF? Wait...there's a PDF that isn't downloading. It could be that one.
Edit: Nope, it's not in that one either.
It doesn't say in that article that Sony said they sold 41 million PS3s. 41 million sold is what the author said.FIipMode"Sony claims the hacks will eat into game sales for the 41 million PS3 units sold."

hondas sell more then ferraris What is your point? Obviously the analogy is not as easy to compare as the HD twins, as they are much more similar than a "Honda" & "Ferrari". If you were implying that the 360 is a honda in comparison to a PS3(Ferrari) than I suggest you take off those goggles. Is this right? Well according to Sony, they have only sold 41 Million PS3s.

Wat. You think I didn't read the article myself? lol The author said 41 million. In none of the links or PDF files does it have Sony saying they sold 41 million PS3s.I read in a article a few weeks back they have sold over 50 million worldwide. If i recall, it was 57.5 million.djsifer01hmmm i read the same thing i think you got the units sold to software attachments mixed up if im not mistaken
These are just outdated figures from fiscal reports. The court filings were made prior to the release of the last quarters results. This will of course be ignored.
None of the console manufacturers report sell-through.

Wow. How many times does this have to be explained to people.
It is impossible for any company to know how many consoles have been sold to consumers. This is a fact. There is literally nobody who tracks this detailed level of information on a world wide scale. Even companies like NPD only provide an educated estimate because they can't possibly ask every single retailer for their exact "sold to customers" number.
There is only the number of units manufactured and the number of units shipped to retailers. There is no units sold and if any company says otherwise they are referring to the number of consoles they have sold to retailers...in other words the "shipped" numbers.
This is just getting ridiculous and if people don't get it by now they have no business even being on a gaming website to begin with.
As for why the discrepancy? I don't know. They could just be guessing how many are sold to customers.

The discrepancy is the author of the article's mistake. The filings don't mention 41 million, only the article, so clearly that number was tacked on by the author.[QUOTE="ImportBMWRacer"]hondas sell more then ferrarisIs this right? Well according to Sony, they have only sold 41 Million PS3s.

I think thats perfect in describing the Wii vs the PS3.
The PS3 and the 360 are only 3 mill apart and looking at hte lineup for the 360 this year that could change soon.
